Samsung Z500, your views please

I have just opted for a new free Samsung Z500 from Vodafone. The contract etc is not important, I just wanted my old number and some gadgets to use. I wanted MP3, and cool ringtones. and download photos onto the computer etc. It seems to do that. I saw it here. It comes on Monday and I have 14 days to play with it....

Anyone got one and can give me an idea of how good or bad it is?

I love it, 2 downfalls are ringtone volume could be louder & battery life ( you can force phone to 2G which saves loads of power as 3G handover from 2G ( & vice versa ) burns the battery, I simply switch to 3G if I want to use 3G services easily in the phones menu )

Thanks. I doubt if I will use 3g much, so that switch could be good. Can you record your own mp3 ringtone and use it on the phone?

sure the software that comes with the phone allows you to, just i havent used it!

after messing about with mine, best change your settings.......


menu ...settings....profile.....outdoor ( greatly improves ringing volume )

menu....settings...connectivity.....network...network mode.....gsm900/1800 (saves battery power by loads )

now to figure out VOD!

Thanks. I will play with mine and see how I get on. is VOD voice operated dialing?A mate of mine had that and called his missus when he was out on the lash... his new drunken voice confused the phone and he got hos mother in law instead, so beware! :rotfl:

How would people reckon the Samsung compares to the new Sony 3G phone, the K600. Can't decide which one to get the Samsung or the Sony.

well size wise one's a brick of a phone the other a dinky toy!

found the battery more reliable after loads of nightly charges, seems to improve in time

the phones got everything you need now i managed to get a decent ring volume

the SE is no doubt better for battery, but then the compromise is its massive size (reminds me of old Motrola's first introduced on payg in UK), feature wise i think they are on an even par apart from the camera is better quality in the SE, but then I use my Z500 for calls, Ipaq via bluetooth
to (manually) connect to 3G for web access on the move so for me its a treat
Ericsson/SE has been massively unreliable for me in the past so I dont touch them with a barge pole, havent for the last few 2 years

VOD is video on demand, assume this is network dependant

there is not much info about this in the manual, more just a mention this is an available feature
