Another vote for HSBC. Telephone service has been polite (and has made decent recommendations as to how my money could be made to work harder - not pushy, just helpful), counter service very efficient, branch service superb... I honestly can't recommend them enough. As I've said elsewhere, they've done more in two months to keep my loyalty than Barclays, NatWest, Lloyds TSB and Alliance and Leicester did over the course of two years.
  • Personally I have Barclays and Halifax, and find Halifax service much betterm also find their online service clearer... I guess its horses for courses, but I get 6% interest on my current account with Halifax and have some great benefits i.e. Higher savings rate, RAC cover, Free travel insurance amongst other benefits. I was with HSBC but closed it after an appalling service on the phone.

Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.
  • HSBC are very good.

Personally i would say the Bank of England, they seem to hand out Billions regardless of your financial status, just ask the other banks
