Posting Aftershave/Perfume Within UK & Abroad

I went to the Post Office today to post an aftershave to Brazil. The lady asked what I was posting and I told her, she said no, you cannot post it. I apologised and said I didn't realise.
Earlier this week I posted perfume within the UK, is this also not permitted? Do the rules apply to both UK and abroad? I'm worried now that I have done something wrong without even realising
Is it just Royal Mail that don't permit it or is it applicable to all?

Sending internationally depends on their alcohol content apparently, so I think post office lady should have checked what it was

Any Perfumes or Aftershaves that are non-flammable and have an alcohol content of less than 70%vol are permitted. Those that are flammable are prohibited.
I'm sure you can send it within the UK though... how would all those perfume sites send it?I've bought loads online and they've all come in the post.

Perfumes and Aftershaves
Perfumes and Aftershaves that are classed as flammable are prohibited. Non-flammable items may be accepted but there are restrictions based on alcoholic content.0 -
It looks like they're only prohibited if they're classed as flammable, Jo. So some will be ok0

That's really surprised me. I've posted loads of perfume over the years and didn't know. How do we know if it's flammable or not?
It's also reminded me of a blood test that I had two years ago, I had to post the blood to a Harley Street clinic in the post box outside the hospital! I was amazed!:smileyhea "here, hare, here" :smileyhea0 -
I thought all perfume was flammable..or does some not have alcohol in it?
It's one of those quirky things you only find out to late though isn't it? I was sending things to Australia quite happily and one day the Post office lady told me that it was lucky the clothes I sold were brand new and tagged as second hand clothes cannot be posted there. I still have never found a comprehensive list of prohibited items to various countries.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. DOes that mean you cannot send vintage clothes cos I have sent Victorian nightdresses etc to AUstralia and neither the Post lady nor the customs people seem to have queried it?
Am I now to be hunted down by the law and thrown in to jail, am I a criminal?? And so near to Easter and all that chocolate!!0 -

It looks like it depends on the alcohol content
And  that's strange! When I was in Australia my Grandparents sent over some of mine and my sisters clothes.. which weren't tagged because we'd worn them a few timesStrange!!:D
