I have had my amazing mac for years now but still clueless about it all. I have 1 question though and I cant seem to sort it out myself.

I have got a few video clips of my children from my phone that I put on my mac. Quicktime player runs these clips but I'm wanting to put it on disc to send to family as they have no other way of looking at it unless I upload it to youtube and they see from there... so how do I transfer the clips from quicktime player to disc ?

Do you mean DVD disc, or just PC Disc to play on their PC (via quicktime)

To just burn the data to disc then:
Basic burn software is burn into the Mac OS.
On the desktop, use finder to select File, New Burn folder
It will have a radioactive symbol on it.
Drag the movies you want to copy into this new folder (it doesn't touch the originals)
Click the Burn option within finder directory, or from the File, Burn 'Burn Folder' to Disc
    Trash the Burn Folder

To create it as a DVD, open Imovie.
Drag the clips, follow the prompts and then wait while it transcodes the quicktime format to DVD.

hcar...............a little more information may help towards giving you the correct answers to your problem

What are the file formats for the clips from your mobile phone?

and what software are they gonna view it with? Quicktime?

no need for iMovie - iDVD will do this easily.

Create a simple menu (Green Linen i find is a nice clean one) and then in the 'map' view, drag clips onto the menu. Easy. Look on the Apple website for a good tutorial.

For a CD that people can play and click on each movie clip, it's even easier.

On the desktop, right click and select "New Burn Folder". Then drag all the clips you want into this folder. Then click "Burn". Pop a CD in and a couple of minutes later you'll be done.

if you want something that will just play when put in a computer/DVD player you need to burn a dvd (have you got a DVD burner in your mac?) using the method i describe above

sounds like you have a CD burner but not a DVD burner. It's called a combo drive - you need a "super drive" to burn dvds.

So i'm afraid you options are limited. Either it's going to have to be YouTube, A CD people can play on their computers (which you've already made) or perhaps you can drop your movie files (on a USB memory stick, say) into a shop like "HappySnaps" and they might be able to move them onto a Video DVD.
