I've only claimed once on a cheapie policy when we went to Amsterdam. I took the terms and conditions with us which I was very glad I did because I could read up on what was required. We had our children's gameboys stolen from the hotel and needed written proof that we had reported the theft to the police. They paid out okay.
But if ever I stray from the path I follow
Take me down to the English Channel
Throw me in where the water is shallow And then drag me on back to shore!
'Cos love is free and life is cheap As long as I've got me a place to sleep
Clothes on my back and some food to eat I can't ask for anything more

My Bf takes out cover with Co-op part of his Bank Account i think this costs around £10-12 per Month.

This covers us all (family of 3) on holiday Insurance, Last year we had booked a AI Holiday to Tunisia in Aug.

Basically my daughter suffers with ear infections 2 weeks before we are due to go she comes down with one. We ring Co-op tell them all the details and they advise 2 days before we are due to go we have to see our GP, if he says its ok to fly we go if not they will refund us all the money paid for the holiday. We had this in writing from them just aslong as we got a doctors note.

Luckily the GP said we would be ok to fly (we really wanted to go on holiday anyway)

The customwer service operator were very friendly and i would definatley recommend them.

    Hope this helps

    Had awful experience with Swiftcover!

Went on a girly holiday last year - I suffer terribly with depression and was anti-depressants at the time - The company were made aware of this. Due to these AD's I couldn't drink, either. Came in late one night from a night on the town with the ladies, and slipped on a wet step that was being cleaned. Broke my ankle and spent a night in hospital.

Back home Swiftcover refused to pay, saying that staff had said I was drunk (which I wasn't), and when I pointed out that I was anti-depressants and couldn't drink, they claimed this hadn't been announced when I took out the policy and so the policy was now invalid. Still fighting this battle with them, as they claim to have 'lost' the original policy which DOES state that I was on AD's (and are saying my copy has been faked!)

With Club Direct and had to claim last year while on holiday in South Africa due to an epileptic fit (due to malaria tablets in my opinion). Got documents from doctors while over there saying I had been admitted to the local hospital and my wife phoned them as soon as it happened. They would not let me fly back on my own had to have a doctor with me and oxygen so instead of flying Club class on BA went business on SAA, however back at LHR I got a St John ambulance back home to Chesterfield. Claim went in straight away and I claimed for Medical and cancellation of safari. They paif for the medical expenses (- £100 excess) but would not pay for the cancellation, said it was due to only filling out 1 claim form. Bo**ocks! Appealed to the insurance company that underwrite Club Direct in Gibraltar and after a couple of days they paid up, even for things that we weren't expecting like car hire and laundry. They did not even ask for another £100 excess for the cancellation BUT they did take the £100 excess for the camera that we broke on the same holiday.

I think it is probably pot luck but allways get lots of evidence if you are taken ill or go to the hospital, you can never have too much of it.

If you are using frequent flyer miles for your flights then make sure the insurance policy covers this and replaces them if cancellation occurs.

We took out annual travel insurance last year with insure and go and have found them to be fantastic. Not only were they the cheapest by far at £70 for a couple for the year, they also covered my mild asthma, which most other companies wanted double the price. We had to make a claim last year after missing a flight due to a car accident and they paid out immediately, we had to provide receipts etc but nothing too drastic. I will certainly be renewing with them this year.

I also had no problems claiming from insure and go when i had to cancel hol due to illness. can't remember what i had to provide but i do remember they were very quick paying out
  • My daughter claimed with Insure and Go, she had bacpackers insurance, when she took a trip to Kenya became ill and was hospitalised, they were marvellous, she had a 0 excess policy so didn't have any excess to pay. She didn't have to submit anything, it was all done by the hospital in Kenya.

We insured through Travel City Direct for a holdiay to Florida, not exactly MSE I know, but Grandson became ill while we were away. Rang the hotline, did we want to go the clinic? did we want a Dr, anyway they sent a Dr out to our accommodation, she was marvelous and we had to pay her the policy excess. The only thing was the insurance company weren't invoiced for 6 months and I had thrown away the receipt for the excess, which fortunately the Dr wanted on a CC, so I was able to send the CC statement as proof of excess payment.

Finding it hard to believe they have refused you saying you had faked it. Of course you could take them to court.

I claimed for flight delay with swiftcover. Yes,they required all docs eg boarding cards etc, but thats not a problem. As long as you do exactly as you say in the event of a claim. Only problem I had was getting them to give me the correct 24 hours helpline for use when abroad,in case of ill health. They tried to give me 0870 and 0800 numbers, which do not work abroad.
  • We have an annual policy underwritten by AXA.
A couple of years ago my MIL took ill while we were in Florida. I've got to say AXA were excellent. They contacted the hospital in the UK to confirm my MIL was there, asked the docs a couple of questions ie. was it an expected illness then called us back to tell us when to turn up at the airport to get home. We flew home from a different airport than we'd flown into and they arranged leaving our hire car there. We literally turned up at the check in desk and they had our flight tickets sitting waiting. We didn't have to pay anything up front either.

We have an annual M & S policy and had to make a claim last year when in Sharm (food poisioning, I was on a drip for 24 hours + medication, doctor to hotel room etc) They were brilliant. Our renewal is due within the next few weeks, I am waiting to see if they have put the premium up because of the claim. If not I will renew, if they have will have to shop around.
