Hi peeps I wish we could get re-useable carrier bags with the www.MoneySavingExpert.com slogon on it. As I have a car sticker and proud of it. I think this site is more than a money saving site it's a family friend.
It could be a good ruse to get the message out about the site and could raise money for a good cause as well.
I think it's and good idea at this time I would buy them.:T

What a great idea Ian! It's a wonder Martin hasn't come up with that himself by now. Go on Martin, think green..plus MSE! What a better world it would be without plastic bags.

At present I use hessian ones bought from Tesco. I have to admit that they're good and strong and we get 2 points each week on each bag used - BUT - I'd sooner have MSE ones!

Food for thought Martin! Can't wait, Sue

What an excellent idea...i'd go for them. Although it might be the last straw for my DH. I have almost as many reusable bags as I have "disposable" ones and I ALWAYS forget to take them with me :o . Any ideas to help me remember them?? Have tried hanging them on the push chair, leaving them in the boot of the car...and even then I forget to take them into the shop!! :o:confused:

    Sorry never thought about this.

I suppose you could make a plastic pocket from a document holder and pop in a car sticker and sew on the bag but aslong as you don't use a plastic bag it doesn't really matter.

I like the idea of adding a plastic pocket, but I would use it for my shopping list!

Oh dear Morty! Short of hanging them around your neck (not really advised) how about putting them on the passenger seat by the side of you or on one behind you, now surely that can't be too bad can it????

Good luck as I think you're going to need it! Sue

I went to my local somerfield this morning, with my rucksack to carry my shopping home.

The woman in front of my at the checkout, who was making full use of the free carrier bags, said "is it me, or is there something odd about these bags"?

The checkout girl proudly announced that "we are doing everything we can to help the environment and as a result of this we have halved the size of the carrier bags"

To which the woman replied "how the h*ll is that going to help, I'll just have to use twice as many bags"

The girl did her best, but the only real defence she could come up with was "Well it help if someone only buys a few items and only need one bag"

The reply was "who the h*ll comes into a super market and buys half a carrier bags worth of shopping?"

I felt sorry for the girl, but have to admit it was funny. Never seen anyone get so upset over the size of a free carrier bag!

She left saying she had shopped in the shop for twenty years, and swearing that if they ever started charging for them she would never come in the shop again.

Then funny thing is, up until about 5 years ago the shop was a KwikSave store and they used to charge 1p for the flimsy bags and 3p for the stronger ones. So if she's shopped there for 20 years she's spent 15 of them paying for her carrier bags.

What you need to do is train the cause of the baby brain - my lot actually moan at me if I forget my bags, lol - the 2 year old has been known to present them to me if I so much as imply that I might be going out the front door.

Has anyone got or used the trolley dolly bag? Saw it on tv yesterday, believe it's been out a while and although it is quite pricey I thought it was a good idea and liked the different bags inside, especially the net bags for the loose fruit and veg. Only trouble is for me is I do most supermarket shopping online at the moment so Tesco bring the shopping in carrier bags (did try it without and it was a nightmare unloading), I do give them back the following week though.
But was wondering if anyone had one of those bags and if they were worth the money??

Our local somerfield has always done free delivery. But you have to spend more than £20 and go into the shop and pick your own stuff.

As an aside, I was out very early this morning, without my rucksack to carry shopping as I wasn't intending to do any at 7.00am

I passed Mr T's and as it looked quite I went in. At the checkout the girl insisted on packing my shopping for me. Probably because she had nothing else to do.

She put the following into one carrier bag. Four cans of beer, a 2ltre bottle of lager, a 2ltre bottle of milk, bag of sugar, 3 large spuds, some carrots, 2 packets of bacon, a tin of pilchards and in the second carrier bag she put my news paper.

She handed the bags over with a big smile, but failled to note the sarcasm in my voice when I said "I'll have one arm longer than the other when I get home"
