Digital Camera Advice Please

First of all apologies if this is in the wrong place - I did look around but couldn't see where else to post it!

I'm after a digital camera for my hubby for his birthday - he's not a photographer just a point'n'clicker - but I would be grateful if anyone could point me in the direction of a camera with the following:

price around £80ish
4 megapixels or more
3x optical zoom or more
preferably works on AA batteries rather than it's own rechargeable battery

now I can easily find cameras that fit this bill but here's the tricky part - all of the digital cameras he has used he has moaned about the shutter lag "******* things gone before the pictures taken"

so can you recommend a camera with little or no shutter lag with the above points?

Many thanks
Nikki

i would always recommend a camera with its own rechargeable battery. Digi Cameras get through normal AAs worryingly fast! Also its own rechargeable often means the camera can be smaller.

    Hi Nikkisun
On adigital camera course and yesterday we did a couple of things which help the lag. Namely
    1. pre-focus by slightly pressing button and then click - when the action takes place. OK when grand prix cars are exp[ected but not the truly unexpected!
    2. the other is rapid fire sequence but my camera does not do it so I can't say.
Need some experts to tell us.

    Er.

All point and shoot cameras will have some sort of delay as the camera has to measure the exposure before it can take the photo.

I would also recommend camera that have their own rechargeable batteries as they tend to take more photos on one charge.

Try digital camera magazine online page - it has quite an intensive comparison page so that you can make your decision.

www.dpreview.com is a good comparison site.

Thanks - will take a look at those sites.

Want one that works on AA's cos you can always have spare ones in your pocket - I now use Energiser lithiums and they last way longer than any rechargeable I've had.

I know that there will always be some shutter lag but for example my old fuji was really bad for it and you never got the photo you wanted but I now have a kodak where the shutter lag really is un-noticeable - have not missed a pic since getting it but unfortunately it's bigger than hubby wants so no point getting him the same!

When a camera has its own rechargeable battery you can always buy a second one and have that with you. If you are buying Lithiums then you are going to be forking out loads.

LiIons in decent cameras last for hundreds of shots - and are much better than cameras running on rechargeable AAs, this has been discussed recently on a thread, do a search and have a read of opinions.

    For reviews:

    www.dpreview.com (as mentioned by Aliktren)

    www.stevesdigicams.com

    www.cameralabs.com

and for the best prices use:

Canon A550 from here LINK. A tiny bit more. You'll be able to find reviews.

    "Shutter Lag and Recycling Times
With the flash off there is no real problem with shutter lag. It took 0.30 seconds for a single photo and 61.9 seconds for five. With the flash on it's a different story. ..... " Here.

I did look at the canon but with the flash on the shutter lag is almost 2 seconds!!Am now thinking of the Samsung S760 which gets great reviews, minimal shutter lag and is priced around £70.

You can get £20 (or more) cash back on Cannon cameras at the moment
    eg http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=777_1&products_id=102479

I don't know if this model meets your spec
