And thats another thing who the hell goes visiting the office evry day to see if there are any weddings they can object too.
If fact who would ever do that at any time in their life?0 -

Where are the banns posted?
I'm marrying in Scotland and registering with a registry office up there. The service will be not in a church, but I have a minister booked for a religious ceremony.
Are they posted in the Scottish registry office, our local ones, or at the ministers church? Here I go again on my own....0 -

In England, banns are only for an actual church service, not a religious service outside church.
They are not literally posted. In fact, the correct description is "read". On three successive Sunday mornings the vicar at the church where the marriage is to take place will read out the names of couples intending to marry in the future (about 2 - 3 months ahead). This gives the local folk a chance to raise objections. This was probably more relevant in yesteryear when most people went to church and therefore if there was anything to object to, the knowledge of the impending marriage was more widespread.
If the soon to be bride or groom live in a different parish, then their local church also has to read the banns in the same way. A separate fee is payable to that church for reading these banns.0
