LCD TV - optical audio output to phono...?

I was just about to buy an LG 3275LT television... until I heard that it doesn't have co-axial phono audio outputs, which I would use to connect my hi-fi for better sound quality.
I really can't believe that something so fundamental is missing from a modern TV, but after a quick look at the manual on the LG website, it seems that the only audio output is optical. Is anyone who actually has the TV able to confirm this?
If this is the case, is there anyway I can get an audio output to plug into my stereo? Can I (cheaply) convert an optical output to phono, or do any of the SCART pins carry an audio signal that I could use?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Is this the sort of thing you mean?

But the price seems to be astromical to do what you want to do! Might be cheaper to buy a new amplifier!A friend is someone who understands your past, believes in your future, and accepts you just the way you are.0 -
D'oh! I was hoping not to have to spend very much at all!
Would something like this work, do you know?

One of those would do nicely, assuming you've got a spare scart! That gum you like is coming back in style.0

If you happen to have a Sony Minidisc deck lying around, that would probably make a good alternative solution. They will convert a TOSLINK digital input to analogue output, and the quality of the Sony DAC is very good.0

To convert a digital optical output to a digital phono (S/PDIF) output, you could try something like http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?ModuleNo=29293&doy=19m3 or its companion http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?ModuleNo=29291&doy=19m3 (for the other way 'round).
Alternatively, if you just want an analogue stereo output, look into http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?ModuleNo=13395&doy=19m3 or http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?ModuleNo=28831&doy=19m3. Whether these work for you or not will depend on exactly how your TV works. You may also need to try connecting these adaptors/cables the other way around. Maplin do have a 14 day no quibble returns policy, providing you return goods in as-new saleable condition, so be careful opening the packaging!0 -
Cowbutt is quite correct, this is the way to go. In fact here's one on Ebay ending very soon!

My LG 32LC2DB has both optical and phono.0

I wouldn't worry so much about trying to get decent sound out of it and more about how you could get a decent pic out of it - something I've failed to see it do...0

Here's a clue. It's a LCD TV and therefore needs a HD source to get a decent picture.0
