I sadly missed this as the schedule was changed due to the terrible events of yesterday. Hope it is repeated sometime.~What you send out comes back to thee thricefold!~~0
-
Maybe they'll repeat it on BBC3?
Edit: Nah, had a look and it doesnt seem so!0 -
Check out the radio times website and you should be able to find out when it is repeated. I'm sure it will be. I couldn't see it repeated again, but next time it is on is Thursday 14th July at 8pm-9pm on BBC2.
Here is the website for The Bank of Mam and Dad.

I saw a bit of the programme. I find it frustrating how they just concentrate on 'stop spending' - £29k of debt repayment takes more than that. Ah well.
And i note their website is a bit poor. Perhaps people should email the suggestions section telling people to try this site out

what I could not understand was how to get her to use less make up they threw all the expensive stuff she already had in the bin, and also why could she not move to a less expensive apartment?
( I did miss the first few minutes of the programme so maybe the answer was there?).0 -
I don't think she would have moved - prizing the car away was hard enough - and she was banned from driving.
The make-up - I think they wanted to make her change and not use the whole 'mask', and if she wasnt going to use it then it might as well go in the bin!
Martin, I think they do more than 'stop spending'. The dude in the Beamer does a plan. The problem is that they dont seem to cover this in the show.0 -
Loved the program last night, I sat with my 15 year old son and discussed it later with him. But why since the mum was a single parent, and obviously on top of her incomings-outgoings, was the girl so opposite in her values???. Rebellion?? too strict in her upbringing???. How do parent/s know where to draw the line at being money smart, and transferring that disipline to their offspring?? a thin line methinks. Pro Bono Publico :beer:0

I didn't see all of it but I'm still getting my head round the fact that she had access to so much credit and was able to put such a dear car on a credit card. Can't remember how much she was earning - 12/14K?
I felt so sorry for the mom - I think she couldn't even comprehend how it had happened.0 -
I know Laurence, and he's a good IFA. Though that isn't really much on debt. In fact the last time I met him I said "BofM&D is a good gig, but off your beaten track isn't it?" His answer "yes, but your book and website have been really helpful!" Nuff said.
As for a plan. There's a plan and then there's actually cutting through their finances. For example the phrase "bought a car on a credit card how stupid". As all good MSE know - buying a car on a credit card is actually the cheapest way to do it. It's not "bought a car on a credit card", its "bought a card on THAT credit card, how stupid".
My worry is just like Alvin Hall, these 'entertainment' programmes (BBC classification), teach people that to improve your finances you need to be frugal. While true for the extreme cases picked, most people first need to learn to be better consumers and then see if they need to cut back!Martin Lewis, Money Saving Expert.
