    I would add to that in some cases they make the situation worse - as there is another party for the customer to get bounced between - ie shop, manufacturer, mastercare.

    We had a laptop replaced and as far as know the old waranty continued and they wrote to us to renew after it ran out and mentioned that we had a replacement.

    And that was with Comet.

    I guess the question is is it the product inssured or the person.
