And would like to say that this isn't a freebie for people to exploit, you have to be a Hexus member who is actively involved in the community. So i wouldn't get your hopes up that just joining the hexus community to get the free scan delivery will work.
As we speak i shall be reporting this to a mod to delete the thread.

'Money Saving is about cutting bills not cutting back. It's about being a sassy consumer. Companies try to screw us for profits. Money saving shows you how to screw them back.'
i think its funny how people are willing to exploit other ways and sites to save money but when its something relating to a site you use then its deemed as the wrong thing to do (in their opinion)0 -

ok correct me if im wrong but...
1. by posting this hexus will get new members some of whom will stay around because they like the forums....do hexus not want new members or something?
2. scan will get more custom from people, and after all scan do rip people off with p&p...does scan not want new customers?
3. scan is a pretty elitist computer shop, a lot of its customers will be incredibly computer savvy hence surely these people would be welcomed at both scan and hexus.
by coming on flaming and shouting i dont think you have helped matters...why not get Mr Shelley Raja to come over to MSE and do a promotion here or just take the increase in members like a pinch of salt.0 -
OK.
I've received some representation from a user concerned about this loophole. I thought it was worth making a point. This site is about saving money and this is a good method. However by doing so you may be risking a problem for regular site users on that site.
This is something you must make your own ethical decision about. I certainly won't be stopping or deleting the post about it. My suspicion is it will drive users to the site, which certainly means it will gain. The only thing i have concerns about is let's not spam it - thats bad etiquette and something I'd be keen not to encourage.Martin Lewis, Money Saving Expert.

I've been a lurker on the Hexus community for a few years, mainly using it as a useful source for searching for new hardware product details or solutions to tricky OS problems.
The posting on the MSE forum has encouraged me to start taking a more active role in Hexus and not just leeching information off them.
I will probably take advantage of the Scan free delivery as and when I want to order something from Scan, BUT it's not something I'm going to abuse.
Looking on the Hexus community bargain forums there are plenty of posts there which have started life on MSE. Personally I think the internet would be a sad place if everyone was very cliche and insular about *their* forums. However I would hope MSErs don't swamp Hexus trying to get free delivery on £2 cables and ruin the offer for everyone.
Thanks to the OP for highlighting the offer.

The original post on Hexus included:I've been in discussion with SCAN this morning; one of its Directors, Elan Raja III <SNIP>
He has noticed the amount of positive feedback and negative which they have received he has decided to make a gesture of goodwill to all HEXUS.community members. This is to give everyone free shipping on every order placed with SCAN. Whatever the product, whatever the price.
Elan stated: Quote:
Our aim is to give back to the HEXUS community what it has given to SCAN recently.
So, the directors of SCAN originally wanted to give all members of Hexus free shipping, whatever the product, whatever the price.
I would expect the directors of SCAN to know their business model, and what the offer would cost them, without any help; but no, everyone piles in with their advice.

I have 5000+ posts on Hexus (but no affiliation with them beyond that). The deal is that if you join and make 25 useful posts you can take advantage of the offer. The mod and admin team are very active on the forums and I am certain that they will reset the postcount of anyone who spams- and/or ban persistent offenders, so don't be tempted.
That said, it's a good community and I hope that this offer does encourage more people to join and make a contribution. Rufus is correct that many of the posts on the bargain forum originate here, and indeed I'm pretty sure I first found MSE after a link from Hexus. Hopefully some MSEers will make the trip in the opposite direction:).0 -
I saw the offer on here, joined Hexus cos it covers things that interest me and already shop at scan, and will do so more often without the excessive minimum charge of 7 quid plus vat. Is this is not what scan/hexus were hoping to acheive then I don't know what it is...I think....0

Hi Martin,
I have emailed you about this but not heard back? Please let me know if you actually got my email. I am pleased that members of the HEXUS community showed concern and got in touch with you directly.
I agree with your point about ethical, and I am happy for this thread to stay here. Of course it will drive people to HEXUS & SCAN and all benifit, as long as people do look at it ethically then we won't see abuse.
Also thank you for informing your readers about spamming - if we do catch any naughty ones we will get in touch.

Please be fair - the majority of shipments will be UK based hence why they can get good pricing on this. I suspect most retailers will charge lots for NI, Channel Islands etc. It would cost me more to send something Royal Mail, blame them.StephenB wrote:The original post on Hexus included:

Indeed, however if the system is abused and/or we don't see active forum members using it - then restrictions will be put in.Rave wrote:I have 5000+ posts on Hexus (but no affiliation with them beyond that). I'll be amazed if this lasts more than a month. Things like this always get abused.:doh:This space intentionally left blank.0
