No problems encountered here with the update and no immediate speed difference either, maybe because my system is lightning fast anyway. The update took less than 30 mins (27mins to be precise) and was painless and only required the one reboot. The longest wait was on re-boot where it went through a 3 stage installation process, stage 1 took around 5mins, stage 2 took around 2 mins and stage 3 took again about 5 mins. Away to upgrade the other 2 computers on the network now as its painless and very easy.
Edit: One thing I did notice after the upgrade is a new icon appeared in the left hand tasbar, turns out its asking when clicked if ou want to join the windows customer experience improvement program. Of course its easy to select no and hit ok and it goes away.Cheers

just getting it now ...it has been downloading for about 10 minutes and says its on 94% sounds good now 95% as I write this so looking good...we will see if I come back on ok then...well that just downloaded as I was doing this lightening fast or what...now it's installing lets see how long that takes then:)
so this is what you get when your pc restarts after the download...
Installing Service Pack: Stage 1 of 3 0%
this took 10 minutes on my machine...
Installing Service Pack: Stage 2 of 3 0%
this took 3 minutes on my machine...
windows will go into the restart which took 3 minutes on my machine...
Installing Service Pack: Stage 3 of 3 0%
this took 5 minutes on my machine...
and thats it nothing to it really...although I can not tell any difference and everything seems to be working ok...for now...
hope this helps anyone...
from the moment I pressed download in windows up-dated it took 31 minutes to get back up and running...

having a problem with explorer when I try and shut it down, not always, but now and again. Not sure if it's related but it's only just started.

Looking at various discussions on the web, it looks like the main purpose of this overhaul is for windows to be able to detect and pick up software and tools that are used to bypass MS software activation and genuine software validation. So mainly spoil the party for people using non-genuine copies of MS software and DRM-removal tools. No real advantages for the regular user and that is why all MS talks about is "under the bonnet changes" that no one could really understand.Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????0

Let's hope SP1 helps fix Vista a little better when it breaks itself..
Now that would be a step forward.0 -

donnajunkie...it could mean that your using something that is not compatible with vista...as I didn't get that...although it did tell to go to lexmark and get an up-date for my printer...which I did...so I don't know ...is your version of vista a genuine copy...where did you get it from...was it installed on your system by the people/company you bought it from...is it your own copy that you bought from a reputable firm...alittle more info is needed before anyone can help with the problem..

I thought SP1 was to convince people, and especially companies, that Vista was a mature product now, given the number of people who say they won't upgrade until Sp1 is out. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0
