Strictly Rural MoneySaving

I like to say that I live soooooo rural that I can hear the sound of duelling banjos....
This brings its own special set of pro & cons specific to living waaaay out in the sticks. Despite my best Search efforts, I can't find a board/thread devoted to Strictly Rural MoneySaving. Obviously I lurk around Old Style as there are some crossovers but they're not quite the same issues.
Examples?
Well, the standard advice re water is to consider if a water meter would save you money... but is a water meter still cost-saving if you aren't connected to mains sewage and therefore don't pay that part of 'standard' water bills?
Lots of the (fab!) cost savings articles make assumptions on getting the best digital tv/cable/broadband/telephone packages etc, but someone out there might have bright ideas what's most cost effective if - like me - you live in a Freeview blackspot, miles from the nearest bt exchange (therefore really poor "broadband" speeds not much better than dial-up modem), with a temperamental septic tank and high fuel bills.
Any chance of a rural moneysaving sub-board on the Local MoneySaving section? Rural dwellers have a lot more in geographical common than just their location in any of the 4 home nations!

I too would like to see a Rural MSE set of threads - I live 6 miles from a town, but still have the OP's "concerns".
DGIf you see me on here - shout at me to get off and go and get something useful done!!0 -
i feel your pain, OP, I have just moved in with my OH who lives in the sticks and have given up a comfortable life of cable tv and broadband, public transport, shops/pubs/restaurants within walking distance for acres of space, crap broadband, a rayburn that i can't use and a car journey for almost everything... oh and also a temperamental septic tank... so i'd be interested in any rural tips!0

Me too- I cant find the old rural moneysaving thread we had going... I'm 12 miles from the nearest shop so I'm rural0
