Speeding fine

The horrible thing about the awareness course (I've heard from my mother and MIL who've both been on it - speed demons that they are!!!), is that you have to go there and be contrite, and act as though you "know" you are no better than a bank robber or serial killer. All for doing 34 in a 30 in the dead of night.
If I were offered such a course (and fortunately, I've not been scammed by the cameras yet), I'm not sure I could hack it. I'd have to seriously consider if I'd rather have the 3 points.0 -
My Dad did one of the courses in Oxfordshire. Everyone on it had been going less than 5mph over the limit, so 38 might have been too fast to get on the course. The course was less than 20 quid more than the fine, which is well worth it compared to how much the insurance would have gone up if he had points.0

I don't think that 3 points affects your insurance (or if it does, not greatly) - the number of people with points on their licence has soared over the last few years. While, interestingly, the number of people losing their licences has dropped. So, more people are offending, less often? Hmm. Could be they are sharing the points around?0

I have heard that having three points has little effect, but six does.
The problem therefore with taking the points and the slightly smaller fine, is that you are now closer to the six.
Before this thread, I had not heard any negative stories about the course, people who had gone on it all said that they found it useful.Toyota - 'Always a better way', avoid buying Toyota.0
