good use for books?

Evening all...
i have a huge passion for books and buy quite a lot (not very moneysaving i know!)
The thing is, i have too many books now, all in excellent condition, mostly crime novels, James Patterson, Minette Walters, ect.
I dont want to sell them but want them to go to a good home so to speak. i know i could give them to a charity shop but wondered if there was an orgonisation thatt could make good use of them?
please feel free to move thgis post if its in the wrong place:beer:
Thanks
Dear Lord,so far today i am doing alright. i have not lost my temper, been selfish or rude.i have not cursed, whined or eaten any chocolate. HOWEVER, i will be getting out of bed in a minute and i will need a lot more help after that...amen

Books are very difficult to donate, some of my local charity shops prefer not to take them at all.
Apart from phoning round charity shops or even charities that work with the aged, or in hospitals and such like and see if you can find somewhere that wants them I really can't think of anywhere else to try.

I sell books on ebay, Amazon and greenmetropolis and the ones that i can't list on there I end up touting around for weeks trying to persuade charity shops to take them. However, even I who hate waste have had to resort to chucking them in the recycled paper bin, and that upsets me.

    Hi
You could try the local hospital, or leave a book or book crossing are great (google them). Also sell a box as a wholesale lot on ebay. My local charity shops take books so it might be worth a shot contacting them.

Would any be suitable for a Care Home ? I know the one where my Mum is has a visiting library but its very limited and most of the residents can't get out to the general libary or bookshops. I've taken some of mine down there when I've visited.
Or what about hospitals ? Might they be able to use them for the patients ?
Failing that, if the charity shops don't take them pop them onto freecycle. Someone may be glad of them.

Day Centres offering services for homeless people may also be able to make use of them: there is a little library which does the rounds of ours.

Ah! Libraries will sometimes take popular books in excellent condition, won't they?

    Hello there,

I donate all my spare books to the local library - they're always pleased and at least I feel like I'm sharing them with lots of people.

i always give my books to the local age concern shop - they are always greatfull to recieve them (some local charity shops dont want them).
i used to give them to the church jumble sale untill i realised people didnt buy them and they got thrown away!!

Our local hospice makes good use of donated books... there are always some for relatives and friends of terminally ill patients to sit and read while they are visiting if the patient is sleeping or not able to talk.... visitors are often sitting by the bedside for hours on end and appreciate a book to read sometimes. They also take donations for the books that people want to take away in order to raise funds.

Yep. Similar thing happened to me. I moved house recently and needed a big deep breath to get rid of some of my books. I took them to a local charity shop who said they wanted them. I explained I had about 6 boxes. Anyway, it took two trips (there was other stuff too). By the time I got back on the second trip, the first lot were in the skip outside. I'm not joking when I say I was traumatised. Most of the books were in immaculate condition, by popular authors. The woman there decided that people wouldn't want them. Never again. Maybe a second hand bookshop. Take them to Hay on Wye!??
