Is there any way you could do some further study from home, sleepy?May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0

If I am allowed a silly one - how about being a life drawing model for an art class?
They could draw me if they liked but they'd need a pretty big piece of paper. :rotfl:May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -

That's something I've been considering Gingham, if I were to invest my energy in a course I'd like it to be something that would help lead to employment that's why I'm interested in other peoples experiences/suggestions of possibly suitable work. It's not something I can do atm but hopefully if I can kick this relapse into touch it will be a possibility (the acupuncture is really helping the daily headaches and sinus trouble so hopefully it'll eventually help the rest soon :j)The stupid things you do, you regret... if you have any sense, and if you don't regret them, maybe you're stupid. - Katharine Hepburn0 -
Re the VPA, coincidentally I did some research on that last year for a friend who lives in a remote place. One site that was useful was https://www.iceni-it.co.uk.
You could also look into affiliate programs. You would need to set up a website for that. Possibly related to the business you are hoping to take over, or how about a blog about exactly what you are doing now, looking to work from home, the obstacles and the breakthroughs.Context is all.

I would inherit one of my Dad's small businesses. He's retiring and always wanted me to take over it and my brothers are taking over his other one. The one he wants me to run has been going for over 10 years and I'd be able to keep it based on their land where it is atm. I used to work in it with them but it's a very physical job so doesn't suit atm. Unfortunately if I don't get well enough within the year he'll have to close it down.
Could you take a partner for the physical stuff? As in % of profits rather than holding equity. From home you could use the net to decrease costs/increase revenue and if things go well start another one in a different location.0 -
Good idea John but unfortunately the business is 90% physical, the product is made by my parents atm. It's not the type of business where things can be traded on the internet. I would have to be at least 80% recovered to think about running it.
That's why I'm trying to get ideas here so that when I'm well enough to work again I can perhaps change direction and find something that's suitable for my disability. The stupid things you do, you regret... if you have any sense, and if you don't regret them, maybe you're stupid. - Katharine Hepburn0 -
Sleep, I know we have clashed in the past...
I just wanted to say, REALLY respct you for doing this. Any way in which I can help, just shout.
I'm not trying to be patronising either, must take a LOT to jump from a continual income to this sort of thing.
Best of luck with anything you can do, and take your time, maybe dabble with it to start with, a lot of jobs offer say 5 hours a week homeworking. So could start with one day a week and build it up to a comfortable amount for yourself, with the benefits topping up any income to get you to a living standard.
Really do respect this0 -
Aaaww thanks Graham
Don't get me wrong I'm not intending to jump straight into anything. I do have to get to a manageable level where I can sustain a certain number of hours a week. I have tried to return to work a couple of time with my parents (sitting at the sales desk) but unfortunately relapsed each time that's why I think working from home would be more suitable.
My original thread is here http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=719629
I'm fortunate that my benefits are all open ended atm so I don't have any financial pressures on me. I think if I can get my health brought up a bit over the next few months I could maybe take on a short online training course. There seems to be plenty of support looking at the job center site so hopefully they can help me find something suitable.
I find not working very frustrating as I've got so much potential with nearly being educated to degree standard, health permitting I also have enough training (and most of the equipment) to make a living as a professional photographer as well as my parents owning two small businesses. I've never been short of work just short of health
You're right about the dabbling, I've had to give up the online volunteer work I've been doing for a few years and when I'm able to get back to doing it for a while I'll be able to use it as a realistic gauge. The stupid things you do, you regret... if you have any sense, and if you don't regret them, maybe you're stupid. - Katharine Hepburn0 -
Hi,
Sorry to hear you arent well, have you considered mystery shopping? There is a disabled poster on the Up Your Income board who does a lot of mystery phone calls and emails? It might be worth popping over there for a look through the posts.
