DVD player not working?

OH's just tried to play a brand new DVD on our player and it came up 'bad disc'. I tried the same disc on the computer and it worked fine.Tried out a few more DVD's that had previously played ok and they also came up 'bad disc'.
Why would this happen ? We've had the Sanyo video/DVD player about 4 years and it's not been over used.

Laser mechanism could have packed in, laser packed in.

Could be dust on the lens.

I assume that if the laser's packed in then we need a new player but if its dust on the lens, how do we clean it off ?

I believe you can buy a DVD lens cleaning disc although I can't vouch for how good they are as I've never used one.

Yeah, you can get lens cleaning discs, usually pick up a CD lens cleaning disc for a couple of quid, worth trying first.

Could open up the player and try cleaning the lens yourself with a soft brush, usually has better results.

If that doesn't work then it's a new player or repair.

Oh dear...........I might have known nothing would be straight forward.
OH has bought a cleaning disc............did that then played a dvd he had about cricket...........that worked fine so he pops in the new one he bought on Monday and now the dvd player seems to have either stuck or ceased up ! Video part works fine, just the dvd section and we can't see how to get inside it to get the new dvd out! Got the instruction book out and can't find anything in there either
    Any ideas ?

Can't figure out how to open it up and now it won't play any discs at all.........OH managed to get his new one out, put old ones in just to test it out and it won't play any at all not. Friend came round and he seems to think the dvd part of the machine is kaput so we'll have to get a new one.
I think OH has now resigned himself to that and we'll pick one up tomorrow.
    Thanks for your help anyway

Yeah, I got a Targa DixX DVD player from Lidl a few years back for £19.99, plays DVDs and DivX/XviD/MPEG4 and loads of outputs, great player, not had a single problem with it hasn't complained at all, even happily plays packed bitstream XviDs.
