NAMED & SHAMED - GETMETICKETS.COM

Getmetickets.com.....aagh!! More like Getmegrief.com!

This is intended as a salutary tale....I booked tickets in November 2004 with my credit card for my son on the Getmetickets.com website for the Oasis Concert in Manchester on 2nd July (£275!!). The tickets had still not arrived on the week of the concert so I rang the London Office of getmetickets.com. I was told that owing to later delivery of tickets from the printers they were unable to send them in the post however they assured me that a company rep would meet my son at the venue and hand them over in plenty of time for the gig. My son left home the next morning and was almost at Manchester when I received a call from Getmetickets informing me that they had got all their timings mixed up and could not now deliver or produce the tickets. I was 'told' that my credit card would be refunded asap. Of course I was not a happy bunny and my son had to rely on ticket touts to get into the concert. Since then I have spoken several times to Getmetickets on the phone, I have faxed them, emailed them and generally got very angry with them. Everytime I call I get given a date when the refund will be made to my credit card. That date comes and goes and I get given a fresh date. Curiously they don't have a manager or supervisor on the premises that I can talk to....hmmm!

In essence I don't believe that Getmetickets.com ever had the tickets; I believe that they over-estimated the number they could obtain and over-sold them. I was one of the unlucky ones left out in the cold! 5 weeks on and I still have'n't received my refund. I have now put a disputed payment claim in with my credit card company but the outcome is uncertain.

Not sure how the outcome can be uncertain. Your credit card company have the same liability as the getmetickets.com in relation to supply of the goods and therefore you can look to them to refund your money.

Bossyboots is completely correct! Under the Consumer Credit Act 1974, section 75 makes the credit provider equally liable for any breach in the contract. It could be argued that you are not only entitled to the full refund but that you would also be entitled to the cost of the train ticket that your son had to purchase. This is a resulting cost due to the breach and therefore can be claimed.

I would also just add that it really isn't worth your time to phone companies of this sort (or any company that you are in dispute with), all communications that you have with them should be in writing and sent recorded delivery. That way there can be no pretending that they never received your fax, e-mail or that there is no note of any previous call that you have made.

getmetickets.com has been named and shamed regularly on BCC Watchdog.

DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THEM UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.

I thought that was the case but wasn't 100% sure so didn't put it.

I agree with the previous posters. But, i believe you have done enough to get the refund yourself already... just look to your credit card company and tell them that they need to provide you with the refund and investigate themselves. You are fully covered as the amount was more than £100. I'm sure once the CC is in contact with them it will be resolved quickly... otherwise your CC company will probably simply charge back the amount to Getmetickets.com bankers... so you can at least take some pleasure in that! :D

And yes, you are also entitled to some compensation for the disappointment of not being able to attend the concert.

You are entitled to compensation for breach of contract.

Generally compensation would be any extra you had to pay in order to obtain the same product / service from elsewhere.

Unfortunately I doubt the ticket touts gave a receipt....
  • When you talk about credit card companies being equally responsible.... do visa Debit cards have this same protection?

I have bought 2 tickets from these people and am seriously worried now...

Has anyone ever got tickets from these people?

    Thanks

Davejs - do you have the tickets in your hand or have you just ordered and paid for them. Deal seems to be that that they advertise tickets, then buy them from booking office/ticket touts providing they can still make a profit or they leave you in the lurch and eventually give you your money back (usually after an appearance on Watchdog).

my question to the money experts is... am i protected becuase i bought the tickets on my visa debit card... not credit card... i know credit cards have some sort of protection...but not sure about debit cards....
