Telewest no longer competitive

I've been with telewest for a while now on their 1mb broadband internet package at £25 a month. For a while they were quite competitive, but they seem to be lagging behind everyone else now.
There are deals out there now for at least double this speed for significantly less per month. If it were a simple case of changing ISP's without any hassles then I would jump ship right now, but I've also got their phone and TV services. To go ASDL I would have to get a BT line installed.
Has anyone heard if they are due to increase speeds or reduce prices? If they don't do something soon then I WILL jump ship, but really can't be bothered with all the hassles involved if they are about to announce something.

I called them yesterday stating I wanted to terminate my phone and Internet connection (2Mb) as I could get 2MB from BT for £26pm. She said that as I had been awith them for a few years and had paid my bills on time, they would match the BT price for the next 6 months.
She also said that they are looking at speed increases and/or pricing changes in the next couple of months but their secrecy is actually costing them customers.0 -
Give telewest a ring and threaten to cancel but have a company in mind to go to ( I said bulldog) . The bulldog 2 meg is £19.50 for six months at the moment so I said I was going to cancl and go with them. The cancelation dept/retentions dept put me on 2 meg for £19.50 a month for 3 months.

im also on telewest 1mb
i used to be on the 1mb a few years ago that was upgraded to 2mb, i just found the speed increase not as important as dropping down a price level.
then as i did this they upped the 512k to 1mb anyway
also got rid of the cable tv package, and got a freeview box, if you just have the basic package your practically wasting yer time paying for cable tv,and i predict freeview is just gonna get better and better as channels either move over to it or lose viewers ie advertising revenue by the millions.
When i told telewest to cancel the tv the guy came back first with 6 months free tv
i still refused and wanted rid he then said a year free, i still refused as just didint see the point even with it being free.
So i definetly know this is there usual thing now to keep there customers so suggest everyone thats been with telewest a fair amount of time try it.
they were the pioneers realy of faster internet speeds, for the general british public, and there customer service is totaly first rate.
also in 4 years of there internet i think its went down about twice for a couple of hours in all the time, there cant be many service providers that have that kinda record.0 -
Everyone is going to be upgraded.
10Mb service will lead new wave of faster cable access
Telewest Broadband has today announced plans to shake-up its blueyonder internet services - with the most significant speed boosts seen yet - and outlined its capability to go much faster in the future.
The cable company will roll-out speed upgrades from next month, on a region-by-region basis and at no extra cost to existing or new customers. Completion is scheduled for early next year, with the following tiers on offer:
blueyonder broadband
Currently 512Kbp/s (kilobits per second), the entry-level service will become 2Mbp/s (megabits per second), for the same price of £17.99 per month
blueyonder broadband complete
The standard 1Mb service will become a super-fast 4Mbp/s service, still at £25 per month
blueyonder broadband elite
The current 2Mb and 4Mb options will be replaced by a flagship 10Mb service, costing only £35 per month
Upstream speeds will also be increased to 256Kbp/s for the 2Mb service and to 384Kbp/s for the complete and elite services.
All the tiers will remain free of usage limitations, following research* showing consumers' confusion over bandwidth caps. The company believes its unlimited policy continues to give customers peace of mind and the ability to get the most out of rich media content.
The bandwidth upgrades planned for September will meet the requirements of most consumers and the applications and content currently available online. But plans are already in place to accommodate further speed increases beyond 10Mb next year, should the market dictate. And with the advent of DOCSIS 3 or ethernet to the home, cable services of up to 50Mbp/s could be possible in 2007.
