Basically I'm on Orange contract at the moment and I did have 1000 free texts. However what Orange didnt tell me was that they ran out last month and I now have a £150 bill!
I have spoken to Orange who have changed my tarriff but it wont come into effect until next month. So I need a cheap way to send texts between now and then.
I thought about a sim only pack. I saw one in Argos for £4.99. But do they issue you a mobile number or are you supposed to have an old phone with an old number?
All I have is an Orange phone which was contract and I was thinking I could use it, but Im not too sure.

Chances are the Orange phone will be locked to the Orange network so you'll have to get an Orange sim card. The sim card will have it's own number (the telephone number is assigned to the sim not the phone) which will be included in the pack (or you may have to key in a code or phone customer services to find out what it is, it varies by network). Can you not add a text bundle to your contract for 1 month to cover the period til your new contract takes effect?

Orange wouldn't let me add a text bundle. Becuase they said if I added a bundle it wouldn't come into effect until next month, by which time I'll have racked up another £100+ bill.
They've changed my contract but again that wont come into effect until next month. So really I just need something to tide me over for a month without costing the earth!!!
I complained to Orange about the fact that the 1000 texts just disappeared but apparently because I renewed contract in an Orange Shop I have no come back. Apparently Orange Retail and Orange are 2 seperate companies.

I cannot remember but if you look up orange payg I think there are deals where if you spend £10 in the month you get so many texts free. The sim would be an entirely different number so if you only have one phone no one will be able to reach you on the old number. Good luck.
