my boy's addicted to this game to he's been playing it for about a year..
ive let him sign up to become a payed member, its not to expensive and he really injoy's it. well not compared to some of the sites he wanted to join...
just a thought why not send for some of the free virgin sims that come with £5 on if u reg them on line you get an extra £2 so that would pay for both kids to have a free month and give you that bit of money back.. if you keep sending for the sims thay it could work out free every month...
ive limited ds time on there cause im worried of amount of people that thay can talk to i just think u have to watch whats going on and know your not alone..
    good luck hun x

I played computer games relentlessly when I was that age and this was back in the 80s :)

I turned into a relatively well adjusted adult that loves my wife, gets occasioanally addicted to a game, but is currently addicted to my new born son in a way no game can replicate, I can spend all day just watching him :)

I say this just to point out that just because he plays games all day, doesnt mean he'll turn out poorly adjusted, there are some studies pointing at the benefits of MMOs and games playing on certain intellectual skills.

I'd look at the alternatives, he could be out drinking, or doing nefarious other things, at least you know he's home, and doing somethign relatively safe, potential issues with identity theft aside.

    Good call. :)

There's a list of stuff you can do with the free sims over here:

I have to say that playing a game like this has to be preferable to them sitting watching MTV all day, at least. ;)
They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it

My son (who's 14) went through the Runescape phase and is now playing RF Online. I do have battles because I would rather he was doing something else with his time (although I'm into gaming too).
However, as long as he is into playing games online, I have really powerful leverage for his behaviour, banning him from the puter is a really effective threat.
I tend to make him do homework and chores before he goes online, its amazing how quickly he can tidy the kitchen now!

So far mine have done Runescape ..Then got into habo hotel .
Then maple story ...with neopets for the girl and Gunz for the lad as a sideline.
Now they are both teaming up and playing S4league.

Funnily enough I have just told my 12 year old to get off the computer so I can use it, he has been on this game since 4.00pm!!! I am banning him from it tommorow, he is spending too much time sat in front of a computer screen. I am expecting tantrums tommorow!!!

We now have a total of 5 computers in the house.
Written down this seems a bit excessive .
4 are being used at the moment.
The last one is only around for when the nephew comes over and wants to team up with my kids.

my 13 year old has been on a 3 week PC ban for being obnoxious and rude to me. He is totally addicted to Runescape and has had many account of his hacked.
I am shocked at how much effort he used to put in getting his levels up but because of this obcession he kind of loss all sence of reality.
He would be on the PC at every given chance and we would never spend any time with us as a family.
I regret buying the bits for him to build a pc.

We have always had a really good relationship but the PC is the bain of my life.
Since being banned he is a different child, much happier and very chatty and funny too.
His ban comes off tomorrow and he will get his monitor back for half a hour a night. If he needs to use PC for school work i will unlock mine using the password.

  • DS is 11, and loves Runescape. He plays for a couple of hours several days a week. He's had his account hacked when he was doing well - that really ticked him off, but we managed to get it back again after a couple of weeks.

I don't see the attraction - he likes the quests, and meets family friends and cousins on it (also on Wii games).

I notice he's less interested in it now than he was a year ago - so don't panic OP, your two will probably ease out of it naturally after a while... in the meantime, they'll have learned all kinds of useful things like how to fish, mine metals, make fires, kill rats (and cows:eek: ) and don't forget the MSE side of it - bank accounts and selling things you get for free:D .

I don't pay for him to be a member - he plays on a free account. He would love if I paid for a membership for him, but I don't see the point. He says there are waaay more things to do and more skills to learn which are handy in the game... I say tough:o :D .
I'm an adult and I can eat whatever I want whenever I want and I wish someone would take this power from me.
