Runescape!! Arghhhhhh

Has anyone else got teenage kids who use Runescape?? My boys aged 15 and 12 are totally addicted..I've banned them from going on it until theyve done their homework and the 12 year old has more of 'a life' in that he goes out with his friends, plays football for a team and trains twice a week, but the 15 year old, in his first year of gcse's...just uses every minute of his spare time to go onto Runescape...
It is beyond me how to stop him if that is what i should do? He is even on it from the second he finishes his breakfast until he has to leave to catch the train to school!
Like i said, ive banned it until homework is completed and from then their time is free time so they share computer time between them, but it just seems to be all the 15 yr old does!
The money saving = it costs me £3.80 a month x 2
and as a new single parent im finding it hard enough inflicting discipline on them as it is! Im just grateful that ive got two really polite well behaved boys who dont really give me a hard time at all, apart from this. !! I just know it's not right and do nmeed some advice.

  • Thanyou..at least im not alone, would suggest he pays for it through his mobile but he has me take the membership out of his pocket money, he doesnt even need his pocket money i just feel obliged now as ive always given it to them both, but they do paper rounds and earn plenty for them, it's so frustrating as im seriously struggling financially but even though it's less than a pound a week each it still is begrudged by me, more so 'cos i truly hate the time they, or mainly the 15 yr old spends on this one website!

Thankfully my son outgrew it. It helped that he discovered he could sell whatever it was he had collected on there for over £100 on ebay!

Maybe we should all be doing it?

BTW word of warning on the vulnerable -

Age 10 my son was playing some alien game online and was pleased to inform me that someone he had 'met' on there would send him lots of 'cheats' and tell him how to hack into other people's accounts.

So glad my son was on a break - the chap asked for his password which would have given him access to all my son's details including his address!

He's an intelligent lad but couldn't believe how stupid he had so nearly been. Imagine how many other kids gave up their details but didn't tell their parents or report to the site because they were lured in with cheats?

My DS1 played Runescape, then he moved onto other online games of a similar type. He still plays online, but is 22 & at uni now.....

WHen he started, we were on dial-up, so he was limited to as long as it said on the kitchen timer, before I would pull the plug - quite literally untill he learnt that ringing timer meant stop!

Blimey I must be old, I don't have kids and never heard of this game either, but good luck to you all to get your kids off it.

I think it is very addictive and yes my son has had his account hacked into loads of times then he has to start a new one.,it seams to happen a lot on this game i know at school they have banned it from the computers,as far as i know you can also chat to people on it .

  • I used to play runescape but it got so samey after a while. - I would say be careful of the chat - as a female charactor I was getting quite a bit of unwanted attention. I think i ended up with about 30people on my ignore list

Ask him to try Travian - its definatly playable free although its faster not
