Preconceived ideas and inflexible attitudes have been the scourge of humanity from the day Eve handed the apple to Adam.
That's one sales pitch that didn't go down so well for you then. Sorry to be so inflexible, but your company is a disgrace and your attitude stinks. I wonder how you manage to sleep at night after taking £2500 from an old lady who thought she was buying a £49 will.sloughflint wrote:I will reiterate. This sector needs regulating.

Ok Guys, You Do Know How To Entice Somebody Back To A Discussion That Was Going No Where. Your Comments Are Just A Whiskas Short Of Being Slanderous And I Have No Intention Of Entering In A Public Linching Of Either Trust Inheritance Or You For That Matter......use The Pm Facility, I Will Give You My E-mail Address And Respond To Your Questions, Objections As Best As I Will Be Able To.
I Can't Be Fairer That That, As Being Fair To You, Me, This Forum And The Company Who Pays My Wages.Nobody is perfect, except me of course
Please note: my opinions are mine alone, nobody asked me to have them, obliged me to have them or even coerced me to have them, they are mine but they are free, so if you want to share them I will not charge you for it!

Wouldnt touch these companies with a bargepole.........
Paying that much upfront to a company that may not be around when you die is absolutely ridiculous, also how much are you going to own when you die?? if its nothing or very little then what exactly have you paid for??
I was recently contacted by one of there "Consultants" touting for business.
I am married with no kids , the man said I would need a Will to "transfer" the property (held in joint names) to my wife if I should die, otherwise he said it would be a lengthy and expensive procedure.....
I spoke to the lawyer i used to buy the property and he informed me that all my wife (or I ) would need to do was to send a copy of the death certificate to HM Land Registry and it was free !!
The Consulatant lied to me...this is unacceptable0 -
At least Solicitors have a proper regulatory body and not some mickey mouse one like the Will Writers
Yes Solicitors may charge a lot but " you pay peanuts and you get monkeys"0 -
I saw another of those blessed adverts on TV earlier.
Thanks for giving another example of how this company operates, Willo1972 and thank goodness you weren’t caught out.Yes Solicitors may charge a lot but " you pay peanuts and you get monkeys"
IMO a STEP solicitor increases that probability even further. At least Solicitors have a proper regulatory body and not some mickey mouse one like the Will Writers
I find myself looking at the various websites each time I come across a MSE asking for thoughts on particular companies. So many of them aren’t members of any body at all.
As mentioned in post 9, I don’t think this one is answerable to a body. It mentions 'PALS' but as far as I can tell that’s just some form of guarantee to provide service if a member goes out of business.Useful idea but a totally different thing I think.
FWIW I have come round to the idea of the IPW being a cut above the majority of will-writing companies around. It calls itself a self-regulatory body. As it’s trying so hard to prevent this style company operate, I’d like to think it would also come down hard if one of its own members behaved badly or was reported by an executor as having poorly drafted a Will.
Certainly a member who posts on this section has been known to flag incorrect advice being given to posters by solicitors and yet I have never seen anyone correct them on any technical fact. That inspires a bit of confidence.
I have no direct experience of will-writers but if anyone should ask me in the future for an opinion I would suggest seeing a STEP solicitor or explore the possibility of a local IPW member to see if that is a more MSE option.0 -
Hi,
I am very sorry for this newbie question and especially if it is in the wrong forum.
At the moment we (my wife and I) do not have a will. We have 2 children and the house is worth around £180k with a mortgage of about £90k remaining.
Is it worth getting a will? I cannot afford to pay £2500 (and nowhere near this figure).
All I basically want is if I die then everything goes to my wife (and vice-versa) and if we both die then it goes to the children 50:50
thanks0 -
chrisyd - why would you want to pay £2,500? 2 years ago my solicitor charged me less than £100 to draw up my will, and I am sure prices haven't increased that much.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0
-
Chrisyd, the going rate for what you require is around £120.Public wealth warning! It's not compulsory for solicitors or Willwriters to pass an exam in writing Wills - probably the most important thing you’ll ever sign.
Membership of the Institute of Professional Willwriters is acquired by passing an entrance exam and complying with an OFT endorsed code of practice, and I declare myself a member.0 -

Trust Inheritance featured in 8 threads but is certainly not alone in trying to sell expensive probate services.
See this thread:
Solicitor Probate Services (SPS)-thread
and
Solicitor Probate Services-full newspaper article
of which a few snippets:The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) stopped Solicitors Probate Services Ltd from dealing with probate work last month.
But last week a ‘consultant’ from SPS Ltd quoted an undercover reporter from the Sunday Mercury £2,100 upfront payment for the firm to be named as executor in the will.
The High Court has ordered the two firms to hand over all of the wills in which Mr Share or the companies are named as executors by the end of the month or risk being in contempt of court.
The wills have effectively been frozen and it’s not yet clear what the implications will be for the holders or their relatives.
When our undercover reporter contacted SPS Ltd we were quoted a modest £39 for a will to be drawn up.
But she was then given the hard-sell to consider a string of additional services – including a staggering £2,100 upfront payment for the firm to be named as executor in the will.
Commenting on these fees, top solicitor Howard Burns, wills and probate partner of law firm Lewis Hymanson Small in Manchester, said: “On the face of it, £39 for doing a will seems quite low and in itself would raise my suspicions.
“But the one-off £500 payment for storage seems outrageous and £2,100 upfront appears to be extortionate.
We tracked down Mr Share to his home in Upton Snodsbury, Worcestershire.
But he denied any wrongdoing. “You can put any spin on it you like but I’m nothing to do with the firm anymore,” he said.
He said that SPS Ltd and SPS (Midlands) Ltd could continue trading as they were not regulated by the SRA since he was the only solicitor working there and he had resigned.
He ( Paul Broad) said he was unable to comment on why SPS consultants had offered our undercover Mercury reporter paid-for probate services within the last two weeks.0 -
Another one:
Will Drafters LTD-threadI was most concerned to find that for the past 8 years my parents have been paying £30 every month to Will Drafters Ltd, apparently for safe storage of the will. They originally paid for a will (my mother believes £90) but she doesn't seem to have any more information about the plan. I can't find any information on the internet and their domain has been suspended, we do have a new telephone number for them and my mother has said that she wants to cancel them and just get the will back.
Having paid nearly £2880 to this company I would like to think that the plan offers a little more than just "safe storage" and for that reason I don't want my mother to just cancel the plan.0
