They are still pushing their 'insurance' which is crap as what most of us would class as an update to our lives, (ie. marriage) EPS wouldn't so would make you redo the whole will at an extra charge. By the way, the training they provide is from 9.30am - 4.30pm monday - Wednesday...yep THREE DAYS.

I was always under the impression that marriage nullifies a Will so to be fair that just emphasises your point on what poor training they offer if you were not aware of that fact.
A marriage usually cancels any previous Will.
• As a result you could find you have no Will at all and the intestacy rules would apply.

STEER CLEAR & GO TO A SOLICITOR, take it from an insider who knows.
Solicitors vary though.

I can't be bothered to check but I'm sure STEP will have been mentioned somewhere in this thread.
• Marriage does indeed nulify a will in it's entirity, it was an example but not a good one which i apologise for. A solicitor would be better than this rogue company.

My thread was with the intention of warning ppl away from this company as they are screwing over the ppl they employ, let alone the hundreds of ppl they are screwing over by deception. They attract at the shopping centres, which can be anything up to 20 ppl per shopping centre, per day! They are STILL ripping ppl off by deception at an alarming rate & taking advantage of ppl's naiviety who unfortunately don't realise until they've taken out thousands of pounds of 'protection' through EPS & cannot do a thing about it.

What you are doing MoneySmart is admirable in itself, but not all willwriters are the same. Those that aspire to be professional, ethical and competent obtain proper training and undertake the entrance exam to join the Institute of Professional Willwriters.

A solicitor is not necessarily the best option for those that require a Will.
Public wealth warning! It's not compulsory for solicitors or Willwriters to pass an exam in writing Wills - probably the most important thing you’ll ever sign.

Membership of the Institute of Professional Willwriters is acquired by passing an entrance exam and complying with an OFT endorsed code of practice, and I declare myself a member.

No.As I said, solicitors vary considerably.
A poorly written Will by a solicitor will produce exactly the same end result as one by the shower that you worked for: expense and headaches for executors.

It's about time people stopped making this blanket assumption that if a solicitor is used, all will be well. That is not so.

Recorded messages - your permission is needed!
If you are receiving unsolicited sales and marketing voice recorded messages down your telephone line, and you have not given prior consent to receive such messages, you can ask the marketer to stop sending these.

They are legally obliged to act upon your request.

However if you are still receiving such calls (or it is not possible to ask the company to stop sending these types of messages) you can complain directly to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). They are the government body responsible for enforcing the regulations.

Please note complaints about text messages and automated voice recordings are covered by new regulations overseen by the ICO. For more information please see their website www.ico.gov.uk or phone helpline on 01625 545745

Hi

In 2005 we took out a will with a company that at the time seemed to be giving us a great deal.

On reflection we were very gullible and should have looked into how much you could really get a will for!

For our money we get storage, help upon death for our executor with the estate.

We pay over £17 a month for 10 years as we signed a credit agreement. The credit agreement is not with a bank but a company called Personal Estate Planning who seem to underwrite the company . This seems strange to me now but i didnt notice at the time. Could they have sold us a loan for something we could have just paid them directly each month? If it said one of the major banks i wouldnt be so suspicious. Seems to me they have charged us 5.8% to pay them monthly for 10 years!

Is there any way we can get out of this?

Thanks in advance

Kirsty

Interestingly when I googled the part in red, I came across this:
http://www.ifa-guide.co.uk/somerset/weston-super-mare/personal-estate-planning-ltd-28892.html
The address is identical to that of Trust Inheritance.

• Any one had any dealings with a company called "Thornton & Baines Ltd" ?

Yes they are the same as I was working for a Will Writing Organisation when we had to change the wording in the wills where they were appointed from PEP Personal Estate Planning to Trust Inheritance. From some investigations I did it would appear PEP were Liquidated* and Trust Inheritance was a Phoenix that rose from its ashes like what happens in this industry, as well as others of course, IF the same people were involved I am not sure. The name change was somewhat before the Liquidation BUT they obviously had seen the writing (so to speak) on the wall.

*There is an entry in the London Gazette for November 2008 in respect of the Liquidation. Anyone who appointed them under a will or made a will through them and stored with them has probably been offered alternatives - possibly with Trust Inheritance, but I do not know.
