Warning - Mobile Phone Insurance Scam

Options
Having a real bad day guys and thought you needed warning about this.

Have recently renewed my mobile phone contract and have a new phone, discounted package etc, anyway today I received a call on said mobile from my "account manager" telling me they had made a mistake and I was due a refund onto my card as had been overcharged by 69.99 for insurance that I had not agreed to.
Company confirmed my details and my old credit and debit card numbers (both expired now) and said they needed the new number for processing refund.

Anyway got a text about 2 hours later thanking me for taking out insurance and telling me my card had been debited eek.gif
Checked bank and indeed, they have taken £69.99 off my card.

My phone provider say it is not them, the bank say I should not have given my card details out.
Since then have managed to find out this is a new company but trading from the same address as the dealer I took my last renewal for my mobile out with (funnily enough think I posted about it back then as I had been put on an 18 month contract when I was sure I had only agreed to a 12 month, but thought in the end maybe I had made a mistake), cannot get anyone to answer the office phones (been trying since 5, always go to answerphone)and the mobile number I also have for them rings for ages and then they just say **** off on the answerphone message.

The bank have cancelled my card to stop them taking any more money and I have filled in a fraud form (although not holding out hope as bank do not deem it as fraud), really needed that money this week as decorating, easter and my sons birthday at the weekend, and generally just really annoyed that I did not spot this.
Real men never follow instructions; after all they are just the manufacturer's opinion on how to put something together. :p

Is it a visa debit card? if it is I would keep on at your bank until they agree to stop the payment - they do have the power to do this - ask for a charge back.
  • Hi I don't suppose thsat this company was called Mitele I am looking into a similar incident my son is involved in:(
    juicy jen ;)
  • Hi there,

I've received a call from Trading Standards asking I let everyone who's had dealings with Mitele (or Midlands Communication Solutions, as some may know it) to send an email to scambuster@centsa.org.uk or call 0121 704 8684 detailing your experiences. This is because it is investigating the company and any information you can give will be extremely helpful.

    Many thanks,

    Natasha
