Perhaps you would like to start Here Dig Your Own GraveI appreciate that this may be carrying moneysaving a bit far, particularly as it could affect the resale value of you home, but it is perfectly legal.aliasojo wrote:I was a little surprised to see so many burying larger type pets like cats and dogs in your gardens. I thought this wasn't allowed, I'm sure the council had some ban or other on doing this, but perhaps it was only in certain areas? I must go see if I can find anything about it.

Well I have to say I am quite surprised at that Ted. I for one would not fancy being being buried in my back garden.....the neighbours round here bug me as it is...I really don't want to have my eternal resting place in amongst them forever.

After posting last night, I did wonder if what I was thinking about was a council rule for council house tenents only perhaps? I know I read something about this somewhere, but the old grey cells just wont remind me where!Herman - MP for all!

I'm really sorry to hear about your dog Davidboy. Like some of the other posters I have cats too so I know how I'd be feeling if I were in your position. It's not a day I'm looking forward to.
Please don't be too upset about your thread being moved. Glad was doing what Martin has asked all the board guides to do, which is to keep the main boards to MoneySaving-related topics and to move posts to where they're most likely to get the answers they need. She thought that was the I Wanna Board and deliberately left the re-direct in the marriages board so that it would get seen by people on both and get double the benefit.
I would have done the same, except I probably would have moved it to Discussions. As threads on that board can get quite heated sometimes I think Glad's decision was probably the better one in this case as the last thing you'd want at the moment would be to get in a debate about it.
Let us know how she (sorry, don't know your dog's name) is.
Take care
Andrea

I've only been lucky enough to have 2 dogs, both German Sheperds, but they are both buried here http://www.hularescue.org
This was the best option, 'cos the garden isn't able to go with you, when you move house, however nice an idea, it might seem.
& the HULA people were most helpfull, a very poor charity, when they helped after our first loss. They're more professionally run, these days, not sure if thats good or bad thing, but at least I know where my 2 are - in a huge field, with other animals, never to be disturbed, built on, or driven over - just peace for them.
One thing which did seem odd, was, they ask a contribution for the grave itself & a small gesture, each year.
When we returned to make our contribution, during one of their open days, it seems very, very few people 'remembered' to make this annual gift!!
Thats NOT moneysaving - thats MEAN!!

My biggest nightmare is comming down one morning to find the worst has happened. What do you do, call the vet? She is too big to bury in the garden. Is there someone you can call for help?
Thanks for any advice.
D
If the times comes when the vet recommends putting her to sleep, ask the vet to come to the house to do it - not at the surgery, and hold her as she goes. She has been a good and and loyal friend and deserves this last act of friendship. You say she is too big to bury in the garden, but try to find a place for her there if you possibly can; if not, then how about a place she loved to run in, such as the sea shore or somwhere close where you can be near her?
I know how you feel, this has happened twice to me; I have tears in my eyes as I write this.0 -

This is my biggest regret: that I didn't go to the vets with my little dog and hold her. My mum went as I was just too upset. I feel so awful about it now and I don't think I can ever forgive myself for not doing that.0 -

Please don't feel bad about this! I have today just had to have my lovely little 4 year old cat put down as she had a very agressive tumour near her lungs causing severe breathing problems.
Although I was with her at the end my daughter couldn't be as she was too far away to get home (I had 10 mins to decide and there wasn't really another option as she was so ill) She was very much my daughters favourite and I know she is as devasted as I am but phoebe was sedated by then anyway and wasn't aware of what was going on. I feel so drained at the moment, cried my eyes out and had to make a lot of choices in a very short time while in shock.
Mse wise always keep a buffer in your savings to cover the costs of treatment as believe me you will want to spend whatever it takes if you think it will help them.
I too think that this thread should be put back into families as we pet lovers do feel that they are family. The title of this board is an insult to those of us who have just had to make the decision that I have today! I most definately did not "want to do it"!:(Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

Hi Davidboy, sorry to hear about your pooch, had the same prob about 6/8 weeks ago. broke our hearts. we took him to the vet during the real hot spell, to cut a long story short,he had to be put down. We did bury him in the gardenBit different to your hound, ours was a Westie. All loved him to bits, as I'm sure you do yours. Our secound hound is just getting over it. Its the hardest time as all pet lovers know, when you loose your pet. None pet owners may say but its only a dog or whatever. I know this really doesnt answer your question, but I thought I would just share those thoughts with you0
