lol - 's all right, uk consumer act - they have to repair the unit three times and then offer a refund or a replacement.
If it breaks, which it won't :- )Tim0 -
Not found anything discouraging yet and I've checked quite a few forums. Do you have anything concrete I can look at? My card hasn't yet been authorised by maplins :- (Tim0

Have tried to retrace my searches from a few weeks back but have only been able to find the following which tells you how to fix the remote control issue and also how to reduce the noise the machine makes.
See http://www.my-yamada.co.uk/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=2071
Theres a whole section dedicated to 8400x there too so it might be worth checking other articles there too.
If I manage to find the other articles again I'll post a link in this forum.
Hope this is of some help!0 -
Just found the customer service thread I was mentioning earlier:
http://www.my-yamada.co.uk/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=1531&highlight=8400+tray
Also found the thread regarding the ribbon cable but it specifically mentions the 6600 not 8400 so may not be relevant.

hmm, I did look @ my yamada and didn't see any of those issues!
All seem to be regarding the 6600 not 8400 (afaics) - never had a problem with yamada - when mine broke I got very quick customer service.
Plus it arrived today - it is a little noisy but I don't care! Maplins made another mistake so the whole thing cost me £80! w00h00
Box was huge - can fit around 8-10 full size cats in it.Tim0 -
Great news on the price, my replacement H&B one cost over double that so that is quite a bargain. Apart from my experiences around reliability its a great player.
Hope you have better luck than me with yours!0 -
just a quick advice,
when burning DVDs, make sure you don't exceed 4.0GB limit, (I personally set the limit to 3.5GB)...
my experience with yamada 6600 & 6700, if the disc is over 4.0GB (or around 4.0GB) the machine hardly can read the disc, then the machine will hang.
not sure how the 8400 works though,
but,
hey DVDs media are cheap out there..0 -
If anthing goes wrong you can return them to your local Maplins store even if you purchased online.0
