  • It seems pretty good for the money the only things that put me off are:

Lack of RGB in/out (correct me if I'm wrong but I can't see any mention of it)
Being DVD '+' (plus) R, R/w - only (I'd like to hedge my bets and have both '+' and '-')
I bought a Yamada Divx player for my parents and many Divx videos play back in strobe fashion (I've got the latest official firmware on it and the videos play fine on a PC).

My mate and I bought the same Yamada 6700 Divx DVD players a few months back. Some points to note are ...
    1. The build quality of the box is not great but acceptable
    2. The official firmware updates sucks but there are other groups who have hacked the code and updated it to fix the bugs and give us some better features.
    3. My mates seems to have having odd problems so not sure if he has a faulty one?
    4. With the other firmwares compatibility with Divx\Xvid is very good.
    5. The life cycle of a Yamada is about 6 months which isn't very good if you're expecting longer term support.

So you get what you pay for really. Personally I'm still waiting for a DVD Divx\Xvid recorder.
    Cheers

Just copy the DIVX movie onto your computers DVD recorder, and then play on the Yamada.

Presumably you could also use a big enough USB memory stick to copy a DIVX movie straight to the Yamada recorder ?

    Thanks for replying, Talkshop!

    A few queries...

I don't have a dvd recorder on my computer. Alright if I have a usb memoy stick how do I transfer that to the yamada? Why does it play them and not record at the same time? Could I copy to a video?

Can I copy photos that I have on my computer in the same way?

Or is that asking for too much!

    Hi Lisa,

I am not sure about the answer to your questions, and therefore am unable to comment. It may play the DIVX direct from the USB source but I do not know for sure.

If you want to be able to play and record at the same time, then you would need a DVD-RAM recorder.

I do not think you can copy photos to the Yamada directly, but I could be wrong.

Thanks again for clearing that up.

  • I've been looking into this for a wee while now and am not convinced any of the DIVX / DVD Recorders are good value for money.

Main gripes with the Yamada and also the Ellion (other main bargain model, sometimes rebranded LX) are overheating and poor interface.

I've got a Yamada 6700 DivX DVD player and had nothing but trouble with it. Was noisy and unresponsive and didn't like a good 30% of DVDs I tried in it. So it's currently gathering dust in the corner.

None of the online reviews I've read seem to completely happy with either of the machines, it's always a "it's good but..." sort of feeling.

I'm just going to go for a standard DVD recorded - maybe get a cheap DivX one to go with it at some point.
