Vista Wireless "limited connectivity" issue

This happens to me quite often. I merely switch the modem off, wait 30 seconds and then switch it on again - it usually takes a minute or so to find the network connection and then is fine.Nothing is foolproof to a talented fool like me!! _party_   _party_0

However on the weekend the free Norton antivirus subscrption ended, so I removed the programme with the intention of putting AVG on it. I also initialised the Windows Firewall and Windows defender.
However since I took the Norton antivirus off I have been unable to connect to the internet via the wireless connection (it shows as having limited connectivity). I know that there is no problem with the wireless router as i tested with my friend's laptop.
Does anyone have any suggestions, i saw a similar thread on this the other day but to be honest the jargon was a bit over my head. Thanks
Oh my the EXACT same thing happened to me last weekend!
Uninstalled Norton, installed AVG - result - Limited Connectivity and no net.
I found no way round it except to go to System Restore and restore it back to before I downloaded AVG.
It now works fine but I need another antivirus software. Are there any other free ones about please?

in the network and sharing centre the animation says that it is an "unidentified network" with a X to the internet
access is local only now.
any other suggestions
Yep, same again.
I wonder if it is a Vista & AVG incompatibility issue?
Hope you have resolved it.
