    That would seem to rule out any oil leaks then. An oil leak on a diesel, left unattended, can destroy the engine (google runaway diesel).

    its a long shot but ive had this before on a vw engine.the air intake managed to draw in a huge piece of blue absorbant paper,it drew it in past the air filter,and blocked the air hose just before the manifold,it is worth removing every air hose to check there is nothing blocking them.
    ...work permit granted!
