Don't put one in the loo, or you'll end wiping your a r s e in the dark like I had to on Basildon railway station a week or two ago. :)

That gave me a chuckle. Warning taken.

Nice one. I'll get one of those and see how it goes. Only trouble with that though is that it wouldn't do for the kitchen as our kitchen is an L design and so we go through the door and we have to walk forward, up a small step and the switch is on the wall facing the window that wouldn't be seen when you first enter the kitchen (if that makes sense).
Yeah, you would need a remote PIR sensor for that room. The item I linked to was just a quick install solution that will let you see how you get on with that kind of system.

The system doesn't work out for everybody, so its best to give it a trial before investing any money in it.

Out of curiousity, anyone know roughly what the base load (Not even sure if that`s the correct term, I mean the average power your house pulls throughtout a usual day, i.e. from Sky box, TV, lights, router etc) of their household is?
    Thanks

Wow, I thought it would have been higher. I reckon I`m more like 400, here`s what I can think of: -
TV, Sky, house phone, router, fridge, freezer, some lights. Also included couple of Tv`s on standby and maybe a mobile charging, but these were negligible.

i came looking for answers to my consumption, its taken first utility 4 months to agree to actually look at a problem, i´m currently doing daily reading over a 7 day period for them, we were averaging about 50 units a month as we hardly ever in the property we are military stationed elsewhere, after a blow out in a storm our consumption was suddenly over 1000kw a month with no change to occupancy, we knew there was something wrong, how can you go from 50kw a month to a 1000kw, they said they will come change the meter once the daily reading finishes, i´ve told them we will only pay for what we believe is used as our usage has never changed.
we dont use lights, fridge is eco, tv only used a few hours, washing machine eco and used twice a week, heating is log burners in main rooms, water is solar,
  • According to meter my reading for 15 days is 787kwh except gas hobs. I know this is a huge amount . Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi - welcome to the forum. You need to provide some further details if help is to be forthcoming.

    a. How have you calculated your usage - ACTUAL readings?

    b. What do you use electricity for? ( heating, tumble drying etc)

    c. What is your projected annual consumption on your last bill?

  • We are a couple in a 2-bed house, normally both out during the day, gas heating and hob, electric oven, direct replacement "warm white" LED bulbs throughout, one fridge, use the washing machine once or twice a week, dishwasher every other day and don't have a tumble drier.

We were using about 4.5kWh/day. Recently bought electric car and charge overnight so now using about 12kWh/day.

When I first moved in I switched off everything in the house and made sure the meter stopped- just as well because the light was on in the loft and the immersion heater was on!

Gas we use about 35kWh/day in the winter (heating set to 18 deg C and HW on timer). Remember a cooler house not only saves heating costs but means the fridge works less and your body burns more calories :-D

18 degrees C is too cold for many older people or those unable to be move about enough to keep their body temperature up.

I can't bear being cooler than 22 degrees in the evening and sometimes feel cold at that.
