On 4/1/13 the electric was 2351, today (2/5/13) the electric is 3917.
On 4/1/13 the gas was 207, today (2/5/13) the gas is 460.

That is 118 days, making the electric 13.3 units a day and the gas 2.5 units a day on average.

    Are these high?

Electricity is above average but not abnormal. Gas is higher than you think - "units" in this case won't be kWh. 460 units will be roughly 5100 kWh, which is 43 kWh/day. Sounds about right for the cold start to the year we've had.

    Thanks.

My partner only works mornings and I do shifts so the TV/pc is on most of the time, plus we use a tumble dryer at least once a week.

Oh I used 253 units of gas for 118 days.

Used the UK power site and it reads:

Gas - You have used 2,830kWh, On average you used 24.0kWh a day

Electric - You have used 1,566kWh,On average you used 13.3kWh a day

helps that I've had in total 3 weeks aways since Jan too.
  • Usage of both Gas and Electricity will vary dependant upon time of year, and outside temperature will have a massive effect on gas consumption assuming that is the method by which you heat your home (if no-one has mentioned this before as i have'nt read the entire thread)

I am currently using 8.5kwh/day Electric which i am constantly trying to improve upon (without much success!)

In March this year i was using 1000kwh of gas per week due to cold weather (in a large semi). In may that was down to 180kwh per week.

I only use tumble dryer in winter or when its too wet to hang out. I have computers on 'sleep' when not in use. Not happy with Virgin Tivo box consumption....but theres little i can do about that as it takes an age to inititalise if i turn it off at mains. Main consumer of electric is OH boiling kettle every 5 mins to make tea ;)

Btw you can buy electrical energy consumption monitors online, i got mine 'free' through BG with my current tariff.

  • Hi there campers, my annual usage from Jan 2001 to Jan 2014 is as follows (middle figures are the months involved:

    Jan 01 to Mar 02 14 23251
    Mar 02 to Jun 03 15 39839
    Jun 03 to Jun 04 12 26942
    Jun 04 to Jun 05 12 28289
    Jul 05 to Jul 06 12 20830
    Jul 06 to Jul 07 12 18305
    Jul 07 to Jul 08 12 20521
    Jul 08 to Jul 09 12 21630
    Jul 09 to Jul 10 13 17857
    Aug 10 to Aug 11 12 13969
    Aug 11 to Jul 12 11.5 11155
    Aug 12 to Jul 13 12 12831
    Aug 13 to Jan 14 5.5 6259

Our supplier is (you guessed it ) British Gas.

Our property is a 1975 small detached 3 bed house with Gas Central heating and water with normal electrical appliances. British Gas says these readings are normal!!! They changed the meter in 2005 as a 'gesture of goodwill' and the recorded readings thereafter went down a bit. They said that was us but we didn't have the test readings they recorded prior to changing the meter. However in 2011 they did provide what they said were the test and house readings for the 2005 change over. The test meter was in for over a month (we have letters proving this) but the details they gave us stated that the test meter was in for exactly 4 weeks. When I checked their figures against the actual bills for this period they have fraudulently used a two week period and turned it into a four week period and used this to prove that the meter was not faulty and categorically refuse to discuss this. (I have all the bills from 2001 todate)
I took out a civil claim against them (as a litigant in person) as they used this record and the limitation act to have my claim thrown out without any reference to the actual evidence. The court didn't help either by ensuring that the judge(s) wasn't give any of the filed documents ( Claim POC Evidence etc etc)
I have all the documentary evidence to prove this plus lots of other things that they have done. and have recorded daily usage figures for the last 4 years
Can any one tell me how I can bring these criminals to book, they seem to be able to lie commit fraud and pervert the course of justice with impunity

That's 14.4kWh per day if you leave them on. My consumption averages 2750kWh PA (7.5/day) to run this lot:

    Fridge
    Freezer
    Cooker
    CH Pump
    Microwave
    Washer dryer
    Kettle
    TV (x2)
    PVR
    VHS
    HiFi
    Router
    Laptop
Lights (Tungsten everywhere, except lounge and kitchen)
    Shower
Bathroom heater (only a few minutes a day)
    Bedside clock/radio
