Paypal Warning Fraud

Options
i have no idea where to put this but needed to stress the importance of regulerly changing passwords and checking accounts.
tonight we were the victim of fraud on paypal. some one sent us an email to request funds and then went straight ahead and helped themselves to £500 out of our account. we did not pay this the person has somehow managed to hack into our account and take mone wich we dont have. and worst case now is tha they get this money and we have bills that start to bounce. one situation i have never been in.
im gutted i cant believe this has happened. we were very lucky in that we had the emails up and were alerted by the email to this activity within 10 minutes of the money being transfered. we arent lucky in that we have no idea if the money will go out of our account or not we just have to wait and see.
we have done all we can by ringing paypal and the bank to try and stop the money being transfered but have been told it may still go out and then we will have to wait a week to get it back

if this is in the wrong place please move it but i really felt i had to stress again the importance of being vigilant. these scumbags need stopping we are now in for a stressful week of uncertainty please be careful. i thought paypal was secure

It could be a phishing scam.

I have in the past been sent emails which looked like they came from paypal saying they believe money has been taken from my account please log into your account. A convenient link on the email. however I always check the source of the email by right clicking a link or a webpage checking the source to see if it really has come from who they say it has

Some people have a really bad time with paypal however I have not.
It takes a while to withdraw money from paypal so they should be able to stop it and get your money back. they would have put an immediate block on the other paypal address so you should be ok

we got first email asking for money, then a second saying we had paid the money ( the reciept thing you get from paypal) then when we signed in to check we had it in the history that money had been sent to niko (cant remamber last name) and everything had gone through. when we rung paypal they had it on their system to that he had recieved funds from us.
but we never sent them so someone has hacked into our account and wiped us out

Exectly what I was thinking;) - I used to get emails saying £xxx has been transferred to XXXXX all the time, but it never had been. In reality it's very rare for people to really hack into anyone else's online accounts.

we have had them before as well and never ever go through the links in the emails they send we always log in through our own link so we will be safe. we have always tried to be wise where phishing is concerned.
we did the same tonight and used the link we have stored not the one through the email but the money was gone.
really wishing it was a phishing one it would help us understand it but it definatly isnt unfortunatly.

You really need to a virus/trojan check to make sure you havn`t got a keylogger on your system.
If they have hacked your account they got the info from somewhere
If they had hacked paypal you would never have got through to paypal as there would be millions of people phoning

Have you had any emails in the past week or so with any attachments as they can install remote keyloggers and then retrieve the information at a later date

no no emails just the ones tonight. and they didnt have any attachments. husband is now doing all the checks and changing all our passwords. we have no idea how they got our details. we havent logged into paypal for 2 weeks as we havent bought or sold anything.
we checked with my dad as ell to make sure he hadnt been hacked and said it would be unlikley. he was fine wich we were glad of i dont want anone to lose money like this its an aweful experiance.
thankyou for the trojon help my husband had forgot to do that so hes checking now.
maybe should have put a different title i just wanted to raise peoples awareness again of fraud. we are really tight when it comes to things like this and wont open any files we dont recognise. i have an account for comping wichis not linked to any bank or other important details so we honestly have no idea how this happens. we are just so upset and angry.
we really do just want to help others avoid being in this mess.
