The North East is reported to be the cheapest place to live.
Is it the cold north-easterly winds or just that commonsense is more common up t'North?
With houses averaging £20K to £30K, will these areas be immune from the impending price ccccccccc....correction? Worst case would be that their houses are worth less than many people's annual rent. My house would only have to fall by 10% for me to 'lose' £28K.

That's not the North-East, that's Yorkshire. I'd say low prices in the North-East caused by
Lots of young people moving South
Low levels of immigration
Lots of empty space to build on
No jobs
Short term I guess the North-East will suffer proportionately more, as more people have Northern Rock Mortgages, and more people work directly or indirectly for said bank.Hurrah, now I have more thankings than postings, cheers everyone!0 -
not sure where in the NE you would find houses worth 20-30k! Average price in my parents village (an ex mining village, decent road links but nothing special) is £70-£90 for a 3 bed ex miners terraced house or council house and £100-£150 for the 3/4 bd houses on the new build area.
That about normal, we're looking in a much prettier area of county durham and we're budgeting a minimum of £150k for 3 bds.
Up the coast in northumberland you'd be lucky to pick up a 2bd cottage in one of the coastal villages for less than £150k.
Still cheaper than the south by far but its not THAT cheap! I've seen some of those 'bargain' houses they use to say its the cheapest area to buy, if you are from the area its a laugh. I wouldn't buy in those villages/areas if you paid me!DEBT: £500 credit card £800 Bank overdraft

OMG!!!20-30K for a house.FANTASTIC!!!The average house price in my town is £280K.I think I will have a little look at the areas you are talking about.
We need another bedroom but the 2 houses I have seen that I liked(3 bedrooms)are on at offers over £300K and £345K.Not a chance.
Had a look. Not impressed.I think the 20-30K is just bulk sales to developers for demolition or re-development for social housing etc."Reaching out to touch the stars dont forget the flowers at your feet".0 -
sorry just got link to work, yep bradford is yorkshire. Middlesborough is the tees valley, and yes it is one of the cheapest places in the northeast. Its not exactly a place I'd want to live!
How about this for comparision, all of these are also in the 'northeast'

two years ago I looked at a house in a completely backward town full of BNP extremists. The 2 bed house was £18K and I would be mortgage free in a couple of years. The same house is on the market now for £55K since the town had a multimillion upgrade. In the same town there was houses for £90K!
I moved just outside Durham and the average 3 bed terrace house starts off at around £80K. My discounted newbuild 3 bed house was only £82.5K and looks out onto a £250K home, something for everyone in every part of the UK.
Take a look at this one just 11miles from Newcastle http://www.fish4.co.uk/iad/homes/advert?adId=16756081&sid=s421E477D2898919&pos=49&src=search&tot=49&page=5Lets get this straight. Say my house is worth £100K, it drops £20K and I complain but I should not complain when I actually pay £200K via a mortgage:rolleyes:0 -
Crikey!.Cant get a one bed flat in my area for less than £160K.I typed £60K in as an upper limit on a property search and got a garage. That was it,one item in the whole county."Reaching out to touch the stars dont forget the flowers at your feet".0
