    Really?

Well I've shown you that the average margin for farming is 10%. Just look at the Supermarkets financial statements, you can easily find them in Google for thier margins. You have to work that out yourself profit/gross sales * 100. Tesco is 4.97% Asda is 3.7%.

Got any actual figures anywhere Pinkshoes?

I remeber when M&S did salt and vinegar crunchy sticks that didn't have sugar in and they cost about 15p.

Now, will you, on my behalf, lobby M&S to take the sugar out of their "improved" sticks and also take the price back to 15p. (or give me the money to buy them).

This is a cry of "things ain't what they used to be". And "I'm not happy because things change and inflation happens".

The only way you can satisfy this old lady is by dipping into your pockets through taxation or by paying more for the stuff you buy from a supermarket and subsidising her niche tastes.

I would happily pay more tax if it was guaranteed to help pensioners to a better standard of living - and that includes a few 'niche' treats! Maybe you will still crave salt n vinegar crunchy sticks when you are old;)

The problem is, none of the wrinklies have their own teeth left with which to enjoy them :D

(Clarification for the internet police here; this isn't a dig at old people, my dad is 79 and enjoyed nothing more in his younger days than the slabs of rock hard toffee that you used to be able to buy..........he can't eat anything like that anymore, of course as all his own teeth fell out ages ago).

God; has it got that bad here that one feels the need to justify every post that might just be construed as ageist/sexist/homophobic/racist?

Any advice that you receive from me is worth exactly what you paid for it. Not a penny more or a penny less.

Hey, speak for yourself - not everyone is wrinkled and toothless at 60+ ;)

Reminds me of my old dad, who did have false teeth - he used to love hard caramels (which we grumbled about) and was hotly disputing the fact that they were 'tooth destroyers' just before popping one into his mouth. Within seconds his teeth collapsed in 2 pieces, illustrating aptly our point. :D

I strongly believe that the time has come in the UK that the best way to keep living costs down, fuel, food etc is to simply cut down on consumption.

And doing so would also help the environment, as there would be less waste, less landfill, less need to recycle, etc.

Exactly, although my first reason for doing so would be economic but it all helps of course....

You need to have a look HERE

Our Government signed away any "historic" sentiments appertaining to weights and measures long ago.

You can't sell "pints" of milk any more........

Yes you can, they just have to be labeled 568ml as well as 1 pt.
