I have hardly been on the Electoral list since turning 18, I am now fast approaching 28.
Maybe 1 year out of the 10 I have been registered.
Question is how much of an effect will registering today have on my current score, which as of today stands at 654 with Experian (my previous last score was 576 on 27/12/2007)
I have no debts, meet all payments on time and in full and have lived in current location for 9 months.0 -
slc vs credit scores
Hi guys and girls,
Hopefully I can explain this simply...(and quickly!)
Through my own fault, I neglected to fill in the adequate forms to defer my student loan (even though I was and always have been eligible to do so), and therefore racked up some arrears (inc charges) which I have reluctantly agreed to pay a small amount towards each month...My loan is now deferred but I am still paying the arrears off, my question is this....
If I have been sent a default notice for those arrears by the slc, should it appear on my credit report/score? I recently went for a credit card to swap a balance over and got knocked back, so looked up equifax and found they (the slc) have put a big fat default on there (dated 2007) and no info regarding the payments I make towards it or anything? Its the only stain I have when it comes to finances so will it affect any mortgage chances etc as well? (as I'm considering moving!)
Any advice would be greatly received, thanks,
P.s Sorry mods if this is in the wrong spot!0 -

Hi
I have been looking at my credit files today to see what I can do to improve them as not only would I like to borrow some money, I would also like to buy a home next year.
I had a number of credit problems in 2004 & 2005. I am clearing these debts monthly and have been doing so since I defaulted on them.
I checked Experian first, found a few things on there that haven't been removed that are settled, so I need to sort that. I then checked my credit scoring on there and it was 744. This is without being on the electoral roll. I am moving shortly, all my post is still registered at my parents address. So i'm waiting till we move again in April to change all of that. Long history of landlord problems...can be seen in my previous posts. I then checked Equifax and my credit score there is 252! How can they be so different?? Is one more right than the other? I can't work it out.
I have made real efforts in repaying all my debts and pay them all off monthly. A number of them will finish being paid off this year. But there seems to be no where on the credit reports that states that I am still paying these off on a regular monthly basis. Yes I defulted 4-5 years ago, but I've been in a payment plan for them since then! Seems a little unfair.0 -
Hi, this is my first time on a forum so please excuse any mistakes made. Im wondering if anyone has any advice they can give me. I have always had great credit and never had a problem getting loans and credit cards etc.. until recently.
I applied for a loan before Christmas and was turned down so applied for one more and got refused again. A month later I applied for a new credit card to do a balance transfer and got refused again. I have checked my credit report and my boy friends and there were no problems that we could see. I have now paid for my credit score which is 470 so apparantely thats fine too.
My boyfriend and I opened a joint account together which has no overdraft facility to avoid any debt mounting and thats the only change I can think of thats happened financially.
Does anyone know what the next step is for me as something is causing me problems. Can I get anymore help from the credit referance company? Would appreciate any help. Thanks0 -
HI I was wondering if anyone has any advice to me...
I have never had a loan, credit card or taken anything on HP in my life. I have 2 bank accounts which are with 2 different banks and have never been overdrawn with either of them. I have been living in my current address for 4 years and have a full time job, however, it is impossible to open even a bank account as I dont have a hign enough credit score. I applied for a credit card to increase my score only to be declined. Their answer - credit score is not hign enough. It seems like a vicious circle, I cannot get credit so cannot improve my score, in addition my bank aco!!!!s are offshore (Isle of Man as I am living in the Isle of Man) and they do not share the information with the credit scoring agencies, only if the bank accounts are in default or there is some sort of problem. Hence, all my good points are not even considered, showing 0 on my score.
Can you please advise how could I improve, sorry, correction GET a credit score. Thanks0 -
Hello all,
I finally plucked up the courage to order my Experian credit score and it is classed as "fair" :T which is good because I thought it would be really bad. See, I dont ever miss payments but I make outstanding use of all credit available to me...being 78% of it... working on that though
However, I am having problems getting a car loan! Even Creditplus turned their noses up at me and I cant understand why, since I am never ever late with payments.
I only have 2 searches on my account (insurance and overdraft) in the past 3 months.
Any reason why this is, and what can I do other than repaying it all, which I am doing a good job of?

I have fallen foul of credit referencing. The fact that I pay 5 mortgages and 3 credit cards in full each month, counts for nothing. As far as experian and equifax are concerned, a disputed charge of £25 with a mobile phone company and a late payment on one CC in Dec 09 (due to the mail dispute and a lost statement), mean that my credit rating is low.
I am furious at the power of mobile phone companies. Why should they have the facility to mark my credit score when they have not met their contracted obligations? Why are late payments marked when the reason is outside the scope of the payee?
To add to the confusion, my local council have used an incorrect post code. Therefore all my obligations are recorded against my previous address.
Where is the common sense in all this????? Computer says!!!! Far too much power has been given to a number of different bodies (credit referencing).
Meantime, I've had tenants getting away with non payment of hundreds of £££'s. They don't get their credit rating affected, unless I spend hundreds of pounds pursing them in the courts, to gain £0!!0 -
Can anyone help please? I'm trying to get credit for some home improvements but have been declined twice now and concerned a third credit search would not help. I first of all tried a Virgin credit card then with my bank (A&L) for a loan. After my own bank declining me- alarm bells rang so signed up for Experian for free- apparently I have an excellent credit score (999/999)! Can anyone explain why I can't get credit and why I'm being rejected? Anything else to try?0

I was astonished when I initially checked my credit score 6 months ago. I got a rating of 996 on experian, I thought this was amazing as I have always had some kind of debt but never defaulted.
I then moved address, straight away changing myself on the electoral role. I checked my credit rating yesterday (a month after changing my electoral role details and receiving confirmation) and it had gone down to 800 with the only change being my address! Changed addresses on all accounts. I have a loan outstanding on £1300 and credit card of £1200 which has reduced since I had the better credit score. What can I do to improve this again?
Thanks,
