I had trouble buying a car recently but got there in the end.
Decided to check my credit report with experian and noticed that the car dealer had put through my wrong date of birth on my credit application with 5 different lenders.
Obviously my credit rating has gone through the floor with all the credit checks.
Is there any way of ammending this and is it possible that these lenders turned me down due to wrong details being used?
I have 2 catalogue accounts and one credit card account which have all been paid on time and are in the [0] bracket.
Checked credit score too.....386:rolleyes:
Thanx gilly0 -
Hi sorry if this gets asked over and over again!!
I am in about 2 and a half grand debt - it doesn't seem like much but its made me sick with worry - some of the has been with debt collections agencies and some is on my small limit vanquiz crefit card.
I am now in a position to pay the debt offwithout having to take out a loan. But my next step is to start improving my hideous credit score.
Should i close the credit card completely, leave it at a zero balance or use it for small payments and pay in full each month to improve my credit rating? i know it'll take 6 years to start doing much but i want to do everything i can to make this situation better.
Temptation isn't really an issue anymore with credit cards so i wouldn't have to worry about going to the £500 limit! (my past debt wasn't really from temptation but more from ignorance and stupidity and not really understanding how finance actually works!)
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!0 -

Next thing I know I have QDL (quick decision loans) harrassing me on phone and email from them saying thankyou for loan application and an email from credit expert saying they have passed details onto a loan broker!!
This is outrageous, at no point did I apply or want people calling me. This really is bad of credit expert, presumable trying to make a quick buck as a referall fee to a loan broker etc. Anyone else had experience of this?
The same thing happened to me about a fortnight ago - I was livid as the lady actually came on the phone and said "I'm calling from QDL about your loan application (!!!) and I just need to confirm a few details prior to processing the application"
Considering Credit Expert is part of one of the major credit reference agencies I could not believe that they would be allowed to canvas you like that!
I have spent almost 12 months (since the discharge from my Trust Deed) repairing my credit file & the last thing I wanted was any sort of communication from a loan company (who probably charge exorbitant rates) offering me money!
I have been checking my Experian file on a daily basis since (I have unlimited access to both my Equifax and Experian records) to ensure that no trace of any credit check has been carried out by this company as they clearly already have your details as they are being put onto you by Credit Expert who have your credit file!
Anyone who has suffered at the hands of debt will be only too aware that even the slightest hint of an application can hinder your for months!0 -
Just clearing out my email spam and found this in there - it is an email from the dastardly QDL Loans, sent as a result of checking the "lower my bills" section on Credit Expert - BE WARNED!!
I had not put in any type of "application" as indicated below.......however I received a call from an advisor within minutes of checking info on Credit Expert

Do you know what you're being charged on your authorised OD? A lot of the rates have dropped for ODs since the whole bank charges blow up.
I don't understand why you'd get a loan to pay an authorised OD, is that really cheaper?0 -
To cut a long story short I had about £25,000's worth of debt from leaving University 5 years ago. I have been lucky enough to be employed since then bar a 6 month period but have been working for the last 18 months and got this down to £9k. My credit file with Experian shows a 950+ rating so its excellent.
My interest free credit card is about to expire and has about £4k left on it. As my Experian credit file shows i've had 18 accounts (only 5 active) I decided I should pay off the remainder as a loan.
I keep having problems where companies 'dont know who i am' and I fail credit checks despite living in the same address for 9 yrs, electoral role, great credit rating etc I even got turned down by Vodafone for month by month sim contract for this reason.
For this reason I rang Alliance and leicester (my main bank) to extend my existing loan from £3.5k to £7.5k and got declined because my credit score was bad. again confused!
Can anyone shed any light on this? why cant they find me? Why do i get declined with a poor rating? Any suggestions what I can do?
I'm worried come November I will be stuck with £4k on my credit card at 18% interest0 -
after checking my online Equifax report i have had 3 defaults on my record since i was in university, one of these defaults came off last month, and the other 2 are over the next 12-15 months, basically i will have served the 6 years (less than some crimes!!! hahaha) and was wondering what will happen when all the defaults have expired?
will i just be able to build my credit score from scratch, using the information on the site?
thanks for the help.0 -
Just signed up to Experian to check my credit file etc. after the initial 30 day 'free trial period', how much does it cost? is it a one off payment or a monthly one or what?
Everything showed up as 'satisfactory', which i was suprised about. What other adjectives do they use for a good/bad report?
Thanks0
