  • Hi I am a newcomer to all of this and wandered if anyone could shed light a my friends situation, she has been married for six years got a joint mortgage of 37000, and recently discovered her husband is paying off credit cards and loans that amount to 50000. She only found out by different companies keep phoning the house so she has confronted him, how can companies give so much credit. She is at the end of her tether and wants to leave him but can she keep the house? Can anybody advise on this she has two children to look after

    Thanks
  • Cutting a long story short I have a friend who's excellent credit rating has been blotted by one company that for no reason what so ever stopped sending credit card bills to his home address. As the balance was paid off in full every month he assumed the account was at zero hence no more bills and thought little of it.

Needless to say 2 years later he applies for a £3000 loan and is told about this bad credit history, pays off the remaining debt plus late payment charges yet the company refuses to correct his credit score even though they are at fault. Experian have also tried to make them see sense but they have an inherantly appalling and negative attitude running throughout the company that want's to do nothing.

I know he can add his own 'notice of correction' notes to his credit file but it wouldn't be as satisfying or rewarding as taking these obnoxious clowns to court! Is it possible?
  • I followed the credit check article which I have to say is really helpful.
I opted to go for the three-survey report from https://www.checkmyfile.com.
It cost £16 and on the face of it was useful.
However ... for some reason, having paid for reports from Experian, Equifax and CreditCall I found that it didn't hold any account details for the Experian report.
Furthermore, it had a credit score for Experian of 578, which it rated as poor (two stars out of five).
Equifax had me with three out of five stars and Credit Call as four out of five.
I was concerned to see Experian so low so I've signed up for the 30-day free trial (which I fully intend to cancel before I get charged 60-quid). To my surprise, its credit score for me is 956 out of 1000 - a massive 378 points difference from checkmyfile!!
I'm now left querying the results for Equifax which was much better (809) but still may be wrong. I've signed up for a free trial of their credit report (which again I'll cancel before I pay) which mirrors the one for Experian but it's an extra £16.95 for the credit rating.
Has anyone else checked out checkmyfile against the actual credit companies themselves?

Loan Northern Rock £0 (was £2.7k)
Credit card BoS £7k (was £5.6k)
Overdraft £2,750 (was zero - darnit!)
  • Hi all,

I have been living in rented accommodation for the last 18 months, recently I have decide to purchase a property of my own, and I’m worried that the address I currently live at is affecting my chances of the mortgage amount?
When I first move into the property (rented) there were letters threatening court action against one of the previous tenants for outstanding debt, recently I have discovered there are 2 counts of fraud outstanding on the property. And the owner of property has been declared bankrupt in another country.
Will this affect my mortgage application?

Recently joined annualcreditreport.co.uk which gives you a free credit report and for a small fee £3.77 also gives you your credit score.

Looks like i have an average credit score 805 out of 1000 and it says i should be in the market for most lenders.
However according to the report i am on the electoral register at my previous address (My parents)until Oct 2005.....Then nothing. I have applied to the electoral role stating my new address. My current address is linked to me and is on the report but no further info is given.

What my concern is tho, i keep getting knocked back for credit cards or offered silly high rate for loans etc. Why if my credit rating is ok.

Does anybody know of this site and is it actually any good/relaible?
Am i getting knocked back because am i using my new address and there is no trace of me there?

    Thanks for anyhelp

He needs to claim back any charges applied to the account, and include in letters a request for removal of the adverse information. If it goes as far as having to take the claim to court, the nyou include a request for removal in the Particulars of Claim.

  • Hi,

I was just wondering-as I've had no credit it the past but have kept in the the 'black' in my current account with the HSBC, what are my chances of getting a credit card? I've just went on the electoral register but I don't own my own home. After reading some of the info I'm worried I'll damage my rating before I even start!!
  • hi all really need some advice!! my partner has a platinum abbey credit card run by mbna with a limit of 2,600 and an abbey current account which our wages, child tax credit and child benefit are paid into. last week we received 625.00 in back payments for child tax credit which we transferred online into the credit card until we had confirmation that it was ours. the following day we also transferred 200.00 of my wage onto the credit card to do some shopping. 625.00 transferred wednesday would be available friday and the 200.00 transferred thursday would be available saturday. on friday we went to morrisons to do a shop of 189.00, and wanted to pay with the credit card, as the 625.00 was showing available online. got to the checkout, put in the card and it refused showing code 05, which is the banks refusal of payment. my partner then rang mbna to find out what was the problem, and they said he was seriously behind with a loan that he's got with hsbc. so we had to dump our shopping as they wouldn't authorise payment. got home went to hsbc to see what the problem was and they said there was no problem, loan repayments were being met and his record with them was clear. she did suggest that because we had paid off sych a large amount on the credit card thay they'd looked at increasing our limit and we'd failed a credit check. where hsbc comes into that i don't know!!!! checked online at the credit card and found that they'd reduced the limit from 2,600 down to 2,100 and even though that should still have left us with 300.00 available to spend it said available was 0.00???? they'd put a stop on our card!!!
5 years ago my partner had a serious car crash and lost his job and therefore was unable to pay his hsbc loan so he fell behind. when he got sorted again he arranged to pay off 28.00 a month instead of the 100.00. we have 5 years of statements and the annual yearly statement to show this. mbna said this was the reason they had stopped our card as he was behind on payments and hsbc had given us a bad scoring with this. so we then checked credit expert and all was ok except hsbc. all RED 6's FOR AGES!!!!! apparantly hsbc were happy with us paying 28.00pm but they kept reissuing saying that they were not being paid. at this point we had no money until we got paid in 2 weeks and 2 kids to feed. monday hsbc said they would phone us to resolve this,on thursday still waiting for the phone call. friday morning we receive a letter from hsbc saying, and i quote "following investigation, i can see corrective action is required to rectify the following situation:incorrect reporting of payment history on your managed loan account. i can confirm i have today(16/11/06)instructed the credit ref agencies to amend their record. at hsbc we strive to provide a superior cutomer service and take this matter seriously, on this occasion we did not meet with your expectations, and would like to apologise for the inconveniance".
so now our credit expert record is clear, but upon ringing mbna they have told us that because the chip has been deactivated we have to wait 7 working days for them to reissue another credit card, but they have increased our credit limit back to 2,600.
we are really annoyed at this and the way that its been dealt with from both banks. if hsbc have been issuing non-payment of a loan all the time it explains why we haven't been able to get a loan for a new car and why, at the beginning of the year, we were refused for a mortgage.
does anyone have any advise on what we can do?
can we claim any kind of compensation at all?
can we claim for all the phone calls and running back and forward to branches?
and the fact that we've been refused for a mortgage?
sorry this is so long but when i get going...........
    REALLY ANNOYED
  • I have posted this on the loans forum also but i thought someone with a bit of know on credit scoring etc might be able to enlighten me..

    Hi
This is my first post on here please bear with me, let me introduce myself, im miss b im 25 working mum of one.

    Well my situation is this...

I have one ccj on my credit file (satsfied and was only £195) i jave one default again under 200 pound both of these were from 2002 and i know they will come off in 2008.

I have online access to all three credit ref agencies and monitor closely due to being a victim of identity theft.

Since getting my ccj and default i have managed to obtain a few high interst credit cards and catalouges, which i have used VERY responsibbly and paid off at least usually more of the minimum balance exh month.

I have been searching high and low for a loan that i need to refinance my (AUTHORISED) bank OD as i would like to start being in the black at the end of every month instead of the red.

With my bank and there own personal internal system or whatever it is at my financial reveiew they did in april i got told i have a rating of 1 out of 5 1 being the best..(im very good with my bank account no rejected dd'd or bounced cheques etc) and he advised me to apply for a loan with them (he knew about the default and ccj) subsequently this was rejected.

Anyhow i plodded on with life reminding myself in 2008 i should be able to get the loan and clear the OD.

But got advised that since i turned 25 i would of got a few extra points on my credit file etc.

Decided to have one last ditch at getting a loan with my bank (natwest) applied online (have done this in the past and got an atomatic reject) anyway it gave me the agreement in principle thing and sent the releveant forms (i checked with the CRA'S and they had preformed a search) so i have signed and sent back all requested info plus additional info to confirm ID etc..

That would of been received by them on monday i checked again with the CRA'S today and it says a 2nd and subsequent search had bene made.

Now im a bit confused as of yet no loan has been paid in to my account.. nor have i had a letter rejecting the application.

I expect to get rejected but i wonder (i dont know what you guys think) becuase of my extreme good behaviour with my bank and me having the highest rating they have internally do you thnk they is a chance they would actually give me this loan (bear in mind the 4 yr old satisfied ccj and default)

i only wonder this as normally they have rejected me outright buit this time they didnt...

aghhhh all very confusing, expecting rejection letter tomorrow but hey you never know?!?
any ideas or experiences would be great!!

Thanks in advance and thanks for the great info ive read on here in the past few hours b4 plucking the courage to post!!!

Can anybody give any advice? I have got a bad credit score for an account which wasn't even mine! I used to be an Orange employee and my brothe had a phone on their 'friends and family' deal which gave a 33% discount. My name was on the account but the phone was his and the bills were addressed to him at his address and he paid them. When I left Orange, they immediately charged my brother the full whack on his bill. I rang them up and said it wasn't very fair and they agreed to knock £20 off. We heard nothing from them until 4 months later my brother got a letter from a debt collecting agency for the £20. Orange denied ever agreeing to knock the £20 off, but several emails later agreed to as a 'goodwill gesture'. However when I applied for an Argos card to buy a shed, I was turned down. I got my report from Experian and it is showing 4 missed payments to Orange on this account. I wrote to Experian and Orange. I was told someone would contact me from Orange but they didn't and they have now come back to Experian and said the details are correct! I have written to them again enclosing duplicate bills to show the phone was my brother's but still no reply. I want to move house soon and am very worried this is going to affect my ability to remortgage! Can anyone offer any advice???

Write to the data controller and threaten them with court action.

If you go to www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk, and have a look at the Legalities section you will see other people in similar positions fighting these organisations for their blase attitude to ruining people's credit ratings.
