BEWARE EQUIFAX PAYMENT ERRORS!!!!
Just tried to access the Equifax Gold free 30 day trial via their site - what a hassle!!! Instead of signing up for a free 30 day trial they automatically deducted £14.95 from my switch card for a Credit Rating that i didnt ask for! Getting an email address or a phone number where you actually speak to a real person was a nightmare and at at least 10p per minute on an 0870 number this is no laughing matter - having waited upwards of 10 minutes to get through and asking to speak to customer services i had to relate the whole tale twice to separated people.
Yes they eventually refunded my £14.95 and said someone will call me back within 2 days about the delayed and expensive phone call, but the hassle, time and £££ involved id say was definitely not worth the effort - so beware when using the site!!!!0 -

Not to sure where this should be as it is a question about Experian.
Was unemployed in 2001/2 for 9 months, and decided that the best thing to do was hand back the car and provide a settlement for the outstanding debt.
This was voluntary as it states on my Credit Report.
Had many other defaults, all of which were resolved a few years back and none of which now appear on any report.
The account was settled in Nov 2002, going on the 6 years until it drops off, it will not be until Nov 2008.
The Car Finance was with FCE Loans.
This is the only thing that blemishes my current report and was wondering if there is any way at all of writing to the company concerned to get the entry removed or is it up to Experian when they remove it?
The problem being is that if I apply for credit with a company that uses Experian am declined, nothing else except the Car Finance shows any issues, only 3 searches for credit within the last 12 months.
Would appreciate any advice.0 -
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

I defulted on my orange phone bill due to not having enough cash coming in. I recived a settlement agreement through their collections agent which I paid in March 2005 and thought nothing more. I checked my credit file in August to find that this item is still there unpaid!! I contacted the Credit Expert Monitering Service who inturn contacted orange. I have now recived a letter from Credit Expert Monitering Service who say Orange deny that I have paid and the amount should remain on my file. I have also contacted the collections company but have failed to recive a reply. The only proof I have of payment is on my bank statement as they failed to send me a recipt.
Can you please help?
Many Thanks

Hi there,
I bank with halifax and recently applied to upgrade my basic bank account to a full current account. this was declined ! I was told based on my credit score..
I therefor sent for my credit file from experian. I have had bad credit 2 ccj,s
On my credit file to date there is a ccj of £10000 which is satisfied and a default of £77 which is satisfied and will diappear of my file next year..
That is all that is on my file. I am on the electoral role
HOW CAN I GET A NORMAL BANK ACCOUNT!!!They call me Mr Pig!0 -
Having applied for a business loan in August and being turned down I registered with Credit Expert (Experian) to find the reasons why and found a default on my file from earlier this year with Activ Kapital for £55 from an account I'm convinced I had paid when I was living at a previous address I moved out of over 2 years ago (I'm not able to get documents relating to the original credit agreement because they were with my ex-husband who destroyed everything of mine). Several emails and conversations later with both Activ Kapital and Credit Expert and I found the problem was the final payment which they said I had not made, so which I paid immediately over the phone. Credit Expert agreed to put a note on my file, because I explained what had happened and that I had paid the overdue amount and they were writing to Activ Kapital for their agreement to amend my file.
I later received an email reply from Activ Kapital saying that they were writing to Credit Expert to update my file.
I received an email reply from Credit Expert to say they would amend my file whilst awaiting a response from Activ Kapital.
I applied yesterday (16th october) for a credit score and the Activ Kapital report had been taken off, and my score was "917 Good - low risk borrower".
Just to double check I applied again this morning (17th October) because on checking my report again, Activ Kapital had reappeared and although it said "Satisfied" it still had DEFAULTED as the "Most recent status". Today my credit score had gone down to "573 Poor - high risk borrower".
Everything else on my credit file, without exception, is up to date.
Has anyone any idea what I can do because this is affecting both my business and personal life and I'm at the tearing my hair out stage.0 -
Hi I have been reading a lot of the posts on here. I have had a problem with a default and with the help of the Consumer Action Group and a lot of effort It has been removed.
The basis of ANYBODYS CLAIM is that it is very very unlikely that YOU signed anything to say that ANYONE can keep transmitting your information for 6 years after an account was closed. The credit ref agencies got together and decided it would be a good idea to show your information for 6 years. When questioned and questioned they can not show any legal statute for this because there is none. It is ONLY STANDARD INDUSTRY PRACTICE, that does not constitue law.
It will be easier if the account has been settled but not always necessary. A defaulted account is a CLOSED account even if you still pay it. When it is closed all terms and conditions DO NOT apply anymore.
Credit ref agencies are a FOR MONEY MAKING BUSINESS and nothing else. That why when you query anything with them they always believe your supplier and not you because the supplier pays them millions for the service. They say to your supplier "is the default correct" and your supplies says "yes" and thats that.
How many of you even ever remember receiving a default notice ??? I can't because I never got one. Whoops some supplier breaking the law again.
Those of you with CCJs I'm afraid that is another matter they do have a legal right to show those but they are listed in the courts anyway.
Make no mistake a default or even a satisfied default will mess your life up for 6 years.
Pop over to the https://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk website and check out the LEGALATIES section all the advice you need is on there. You have to do it yourself but you can.
I have got thousands of pounds back in bank charges and had defaults removed.
Get your life back
Lizzy
PS A huge thanks to Martin Lewis for directing me to that site. A lot of people on there have come from here so its home from home really. I have the same Avatar.0 -
I recently got my credit report from experian and have noticed I have got a default on there from a credit card I got in 2002 and it was defaulted in 2003. I haven’t settled the account, so will it be deleted off my file in 2009? Or will the six year period not start until I have settled the account? Also I have quite a few linked addreses on there that are my previous addresses but mispelt, also a linked address with my brothers name on it. Would these damage my score? ThanksTotal Debt - £0.00
