i recently applied for a £3000 loan from my own bank, Co op, they turned me down advising me to get a copy of my credit report. This i did and was happy to find that my credit was infact in good state. No bad points at all. I even applied for the £4.99 credit rating and this was very good.
I then applied for a Cahoot loan for the same amount and got it without any problems.
Today i have applied for a Capital One credit card to transfer my Co op credit card balance and again i have been turned down!
I have worked hard for the last 22 years, always paid my debts on time and have had little in the way of hire purchase or credit cards.
I do own my own house though and i think that this might be where i am having problems. I have owned the house for 11 years, but last year my partner and i moved out and we now live in a house he inherited. Whilst i am on the electoral register and all bills and bank accounts etc are listed at the new address i can't help but feel that the discrepency regarding the property i own and the house i live in is causing me some problems.
To be honest i hope that is the reason i am having problems getting credit, it would make things clearer.
Could this be the cause of my problem?
  • Hi just thought I'd warn everyone about Experian's free 30day trial Credit report. I signed up for this and viewed my details without any problems until I saw my BANK STATEMENT ...??

There were several payments of £4.99 with Creditexpert's name as the reference.

I contacted them and they said I had viewed my "Credit SCORE" which costs me £4.99 each time I view it.

Apparantly, there is a box that you tick to say you agree to pay this fee but I have since found out that certain Windows Operating Systems (XP) will tick this box for you so you can proceed withut warning!!

I think it's a bit of a SCAM to be honest and you should be clearly notified shame on you Experian:mad:

Thanks for the warning. I signed up with them yesterday for the free trial. I only really did it out of curisosity so will be very careful when I'm checking anything. Cheers

Just over 2 weeks ago I applied for a free trial period credit report from Experian (CreditExpert). I got my report and instantly cancelled my subscription. This was also confirmed quite quickly but I now seem to have been charged twice the sum of £ 4.99 by CreditExpert. Anyone experiencing similar problems?

I have had the same experience! When accepting their conditions you agree on paying every time you see your report but it doesn't mention how much this costs. Not sure if this can be viewed as a scam, but at least this is very dishonest as far as the FREE TRIAL is concerned. So, everyone be warned.

This is the reply from CreditExpert (rather dodgy I think):

"The payment of £4.99 you are referring to is for your National Credit Score. CreditExpert has introduced a service where you can view your National Credit Score online each time you order your online report, for an additional fee.
You will only be charged £4.99 if you choose to order a new National Credit Score when ordering your report. If you do not wish to buy your score, make sure you don?t tick the box below ?Add my credit score?."

A friend is going through an acrimonious divorce and has purchased copies of her credit reports from checkmyfile.com. She received reports from Callcredit and Equifax but they were unable obtain a result from their search of Experian.
They have given her a credit to try to obtain a report from Experian, which they suggest she waits 3 months to request.
Is there any sinister reason why she can't get this report from Experian or is it likely to be some admin or ID reason?
No reliance should be placed on the above.

Bear in mind that if you go through Greasypalm for the free trial you get £2.50 or so in cashback!

I decided to check this out after getting the my moneysaving tips email. The nightmare process of getting the damn account cancelled has most definitely put me off trying out any of the other suggestions. I'm sure I am not the only one to!!!!!

    Never again

I wonder if anyone can help... my husband is currently paying off debts through a debt management agency, having followed the advice on here. They have been a great help to him, and he will be debt free in a few years. We have a joint mortgage, but no other joint accounts etc.

I recently got turned down for a credit card for the 1st time in my life, and I am presuming this is because my name is linked to him via the mortgage. We operate completely independently financially, ie none of his problem debts are in joint names, and prior to him joining up with the debt management agency I had always been able to get credit. (I only have small amounts on 2 CC's, paid on time every month etc).

Am I stuck with having a terrible credit record until his debts are paid off? Or is there a way to prove that we operate independently of one another?

I had thought of perhaps getting the mortgage put into my name only, but not sure if my earnings on their own would allow that.

    Any advice grateflully received!
