The further from Edinburgh you get, the cheaper the property is, e.g. YOu get more for your money in Glenrothes than you do in Kirkcaldy.
My partner's from Kinghorn so I can ask her what the "bad" areas are. I can help if you were considering Kirkcaldy.0 -
Also have a look at https://www.upmystreet.com which will give you lots of local info for the postcodes and areas you're interested in like crime rates and so on.0

As my username suggests, I live in Fife (Glenrothes, but I was brought up in the North East of the Kingdom). I don't know the west of Fife intimately, but friends who used to live in Dunfermline reckoned High Valleyfield to be a bit rough. Feel free to PM me if you want an opinion about a specific town or area and, if I know it, I'll share what I know. There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.

Aberdour itself is lovely - I spent my childhood there, but IMHO the coastline has been ruined in recent years by development. Valleyfield was 'rough' years ago, and Dalgety Bay is now a huge sprawling estate. North Queensferry's a nice spot tho', as is Burntisland. Always thought Kirkcaldy was a bit of a dump!"I'm ready for my close-up Mr. DeMille...."0

Quite right about upmystreet, although some of it has to be taken with a pinch of salt as it has to be generalised.
I think https://www.creditfile.com has some useful info about population trends etc in that postcode area.
It is from memory, so I can't be sure that this is the correct address.I am a Mortgage Adviser

Do you work in Edinburgh and need to commute?? Car or train?
I stay in NE Fife, nice quiet area but is on the main edinburgh train line. One hour on the train, but to commute by car during rush hour... not clever.

I have recently moved to a new area that I did not know at all, driving around is good for getting a feel, look out for new homes, decent shops, the state of the buildings etc in an area you are thinking of living, check out local ammenities, and speak to anyone who will talk to you!
Especially if you are going to rent or buy, speak to estate agents, landlords, previous tenants, neighbours, if you work in the area speak to work colleagues too.
I originally come from Dysart, its good for families and retired folk but it has some rougher areas, Kirkcaldy is not too bad, the centre part but again it has some rougher areas.
HTHThanks!!0
