BT Offer of Free Texts from home phone
Just received a message from BT on my answer machine (1571) Bt are offering free texts from your home phone - 100 per day until the end of november to other landline numbers. You need a special SMS type home phone to send them, but if you don't have this, messages will be sent as a voice message.
Has anyone else had this message today???
Did get the web address if anyone wants to read up etc etc.

But...how would the lucky recipient read them...on a landline...surely not a fiendish plot by BT to squeeze another couple of quid a month out of their subscribers by finessing caller display onto their rental?
After the 43% rental increase in July, can the great untexted bear any more, and has the World, his Wife, and their Large Family not got several text-enabled mobile phones anyway. Why do BT therefore need to pretend they need yet another?0 -
It's not just BT, Kingston Communications are also providing KC Home Text to those in Hull.
It would be pointless in household with mobiles. With texts costing 10p each it's cheaper to phone landlines and no cheaper to text them than text mobiles. It doesn't cost any where 10p to send an SMS. Like caller ID and other services, it's another scheme to screw more money out of the public!
A subscriber will need new equipment which adds to the cost. I'm sure technology will overtake this with video phones, voice over IP etc.
Why would you text someone at home when they have a mobile? The only people who may benefit are those who can't get a mobile signal.0 -
marvellous advertising tool for companies to send 'targeted' multi -texts to loads of landlines which end up a voice messages... captive audience/choose area by postcode ie Hampstead etc...
Idea is limitless.
My querie is : if yr no is registered on the TPS does that mean you are removed from these lists?... probably not...
i just sent myself a text to my l/line and the txt message came theu with a voice message on a rather sexy voice.something missing0 -
Well well, you learn something new every day. I think I could amuse and annoy my friends with this service. Does it cost any more than a regular text? Will the net-to-sms services offer it?0
