Electricity Meter Cupboard Door broken

Our electricity meter is in our back garden on the wall of the house, inside a white heavy duty plastic type cover. The meter man from Powergen opens it with his key each time he comes, but I reckon last time he came he can't have closed the door properly as it has fallen off, I'm guessing in the high winds we had earlier this week.
Is it my responsibility to get it fixed? I've got utilities through Powergen, but I think the meters are the property of EDF. Any advice anyone? I wouldn't have thought it is good for the meters and wires to be exposed to the elements.

Well, I looked on the EDF website and there was a number to call to report that your meter isn't waterproof. I rang them and they said that they will come to repair it but I have to supply the replacement door at my own expense:rolleyes::rolleyes:. I explained that I thought it was the Powergen meter reader who left it open and the guy said that this is happening all the time. He suggested I take it up with the supplier.
I've emailed the complaints department of Powergen to see what they suggest. Not holding my breath though.0 -
I believe you can buy replacement doors in B&Q.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0

Just to follow up in case anyone's interested! Powergen, or e-on whatever they're called these days, rang me to say that they take these complaints seriously and would get the meter reading company Accuread to contact me to see what they could do. They rang a few days later and somebody came round from there yesterday to inspect the damage and was able there and then to repair it free of charge! It was only the hinges that were broken and he had the necessary bits to repair them in his van.

My door got smashed due to it been left unlocked in high winds. I emailed EOn (my supplier) and they gave me the number for YBL, which is the distributor in my area. I gave them a ring and they send they would get an engineer out when one is free. Couldn't guarantee a date though, and that was that, no charge or anything!0

Hi, I have recently had this problem, and both my supplier (EoN) and distributor (EDF) said it was my responsibility. So it's going to be expensive, a) to buy a new door, and b) to find a man to fit it for me! Grr!0

Hi als1805,
This depends on the circumstances in all honesty, more often than not it will be your responsibility. If it is, new meter boxes/doors can be picked up very reasonably from somewhere like B&Q or Jewsons.
It shouldn't end up costing you an arm and a leg. :money:
If the meter box/door has been damaged by a meter reader then you may be able to raise a complaint and the costs after an investigation may be covered by the company responsible.
E.ON can advise you who to contact regarding this process if necessary.
