You obviously didn't, otherwise you would have ended up with an account paying monthly interest. Stop your pathetic bandwagon jumping.
No. You can tick all the right boxes. Abbey will still c*ck everything up. Then they deny there is a problem with their systems when you ask what is going on. Post goes missing. You can only sign onto credit card banking by using defunct credit card numbers. Money goes missing when transferring between accounts. Turns up two weeks later when it should take one working day. You ring them up and no one knows what they are doing. Internet banking consistantly not working. Since Santander took them over they are a complete shambles. They were fairly bad before, but now they're even worse.I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?0 -

Your manner is rather unfortunate, to say the least.
So then, you are suggesting that it is only possible for the poster here to make a mistake on an application, and that Abbey could not have possibly made one on the interpretation? I believe that it is highly likely that Abbey have got it wrong and not the poster here.0 -

I can hardly be accused of 'pathetic bandwagon jumping' when I was the one to initiate the post.If you would care to read the other threads your opinion on my Abbey experience would appear to be in the majority of one.0 -

I don't think that when you do something online it is done automatically - I believe someone at Abbey looks at what you've typed and then inputs it. I have had money taken out of the wrong account and put back before being taken from the correct account - obviously someone at Abbey made a mistake. People applying for Abbey credit cards online claim that a credit search is not undertaken for a day or two - obviously the system a manual process rather than most financial institutions where it is automatic if you do something online. Like you say, Steve, it sounds like Abbey's mistake and not the poster's.I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?0 -

Yes, as you say, it is likely to be Abbeys fault. My experience with Abbey has been truly appalling. I cannot believe how bad that they actually are at administration. They are one of the worse organisations I have ever dealt with and I will not be dealing with them again as a result of the hapless debacle that ensued when I opened an account there.0 -

Although it gives me no pleasure at all to read of the negative experience so many people have had with this incompetent shower it does give me some solace that I am not the only one.
I have emailed Richard Harris (thought he was dead !) head of the Abbey Complaints Department directing him to this site in the hope he may realise that bad publicity is bad for business, but I'm not holding my breath !

Annie.
I would have thought you'll get something back, I know Abbey has a bad image, but they take complaints EXTREMELY seriously.
I hope it gets sorted ASAP for you.0 -

 Abbey - don't get me started! I have repeatedly tried to open 2 x monthly saver accounts with them and couldn't believe the level of inefficiency and incompetence. Yes, Speculator I had the same experience as you, proof of name and address in spite of them having [and still holding!] all the identity documentation I sent. The phone run-around got me too and got me nowhere. How can a bank be so disorganised, I have no confidence in allowing them to handle my money  , I wouldn't give them a penny ever.
