My better half recently opended the Premier Direct account and all went well until she rang to activate her debit card. A&L said she had to take out Personal Identity Fraud Protection Policy at £60 pa and the card could not be activated until she did this. She was on the phone 20 minutes listening to a recorded speal about this policy while her card was being activated and although she said repeatedly that she did not want it the only way she could get her card activated was to accept it but with the understanding she could cancel within 14 days of getting it - which she did. What an unnecesary palarva:mad: .
That's entirely incorrect, and it sounds like someone was trying to make commission or meet sales targets. Call A&L back and make a complaint. On activating my card, a simple firm "no" shut them up about that.
While we're on the subject, Aqua are the pushiest !!!!!!s anywhere for their repayment protection. EVERY BLOODY CALL they pushed it on me! :mad:0 -

Hmmm i think your other half has been conned.
I just told them "No" and they activated my card no problems0 -
your card wont work in self service petrol stations or the railway station mind you
Yes it will, VISA Debits are all the same however some dont have the cheque gurantee function 2 in 1 or 3 in 1, these cards are not electron cards and are full VISA Debits, i have spoken to people who have 3 in 1 cards with other banks who have the same problems at railway stations and garages etc.Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.0 -
Just wanted to say, and to give some hope to people that have been unable to get full accounts etc.
Around 6 weeks ago i opened a premier direct current account with A&L and my application to my surprise was sucessful. I have a poor history, and have been even turned down for some basic accounts in the past.
A&L gave me a full account (but said no to an overdraft) but comes with a Visa Debit card and cheque book. Which has been fantastic.
At the end of last week, i thought i would apply for an overdraft (i applied for £250) which i didnt get any response for, although today, i logged into my internet banking and they have given me an overdraft (although only for £100) but atleast it is a start.
Couldnt recomend them more.
Cheers

How do you apply for an overdraft with A&L
I cant see anything on their website0 -
I logged on to the online banking, and applied through there.
Checked back a few days later, and the overdraft was there!0 -
I have a current account and a direct ISA with A&L and to date have had no problems whatsoever. When opening the current account it was quick and I received my card, paying in book and cheque book proptly. I didn't however use their switching service though, I chose to switch my direct debits myself.0

I have found A&L customer service to be absolutely horrendous and I would not recommend them to anyone. The early bird gets the worm but the second mouse gets the cheese :cool:0

If it is cards that start with 4659 then most of barclays customers are screwed then.Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want?
