3 contract - best to wait until November?

Hello all, I'm currently looking to take up a new mobile contract with 3. They currently have the 1/2 price line rental deal everywhere, until end of October.

But I don't know whether it would be best to go for a deal before the 1/2 price offer runs out, or wait until November in the hope that there will be some really good new deals coming out for Christmas.

If anyone has any info / opinions - or even better if anyone has any inside info! ;) - I'd be interested to hear it. It may help to make my mind up!

TIA.

i was/am very tempted to take 3s 1/2 price offer but the reviews of coverage and customer service put me off other networks supposed to be bringing their 3g services in time for xmasso i might just wait cos there will some offers due to competition.

This as also been a major concern for me not taking up these offers, but now I'm worried that if these problems/concerns are addressed by 3 will the prices go up and the minutes etc come down ???

3 Mobile >:( there's a thread on here somewhere that you should def read before signing up).

Their customer service is worse than rubbish and there was hardly ever any network coverage.

I have never in my life dealt with such a shambolic set up.
    :-/

Sorry but I would hate for anyone to experience the problems that we had. x

Thanks for all the replies so far. I know 3 CS is not meant to be that great, but I'm willing to give them a shot - after all I've not exactly had a great time with Vodafone so nothing to lose on that front.

Luckily I know a couple of people in the area that have 3 contracts, and they've had no problems with coverage, so I'd hopefully be ok with this too.

Has anyone else had the same problem with the LG8120 handset, that it heats up your ear/side of face? I had this once with a handset a few years ago and it was terrible, wouldn't want to repeat it!

Still can't decide whether to wait or not. Best deal I can find so far (excluding the Nokia 7600 which I don't fancy) is for 500 xnet mins + 100 texts, LGu8120 phone, on http://www.phoneboxdirect.co.uk/3handsets.asp. This works out at £12.50 per month on average for the 1st 12 months. Everywhere has £12.50 for the 500 xnet mins, but this is the only one that I've found with the 100 texts as well for under £15.
  • Last week I moved from Vodafone Anytime400 (@£50pm) to 3 (Talk&Text 900 - 750 inclusive minutes + 150 sms, all for £20 pm).

My Vodafone bill for September was £180 (!), so I thought there must be a way to reducing that...

Anyway, I got the LG8120 and my comments so far:

    1) the phone itself is really good, haven't had coverage , very crisp screen and excellent camera PLUS (and this, to me is a major advantage): if you are writing a txt message, press send by accident, you can actually block the message while it's being sent by pressing the cancel key (have never been able to do so in the past -I've had 5 phones before this- which was really annoying)

    2) The network coverage so far is great (I'm in London), at par with if not better than Vodafone

    3) Haven't tried their Customer Service so can't comment on that.

All in all I'm very happy so far. I'm paying £20 pm for 750 anytime x-net minutes, and am getting £30 cashback at the end = that makes it £210 for a year. Considering my Sept bill alone with Voda was £180, I'm more than happy!

fava, thanks for your feedback. Sounds like you'll save yourself a fortune!! ;D

I'm glad to hear positive stuff about the LG8120, I might just go for it after all I think. I suppose there is always a 14 day returns option, so if I find the phone is heating up a lot I can send it back.

I'm surprised that Vodafone have not tried to keep me. Last year I was genuinely going to leave but they called to persuade me to stay by deal-matching. This time, they called to confirm the contract end date and asked why I was leaving. When I said I was going to 3 he didn't even try to persuade me to stay. Oh well, if enough people go across to 3 then it can only make the other providers more competitive in the future.

Had 3 contract for 2 months-based in Yorkshire where coverage was quote' excellent' for Three phones but NEVER got a signal. In the end sued them at County Court to get my money back and get out of the contract. Customer service is based in India and whilst very polite they are totally ineffective. Kepp promising to sort out the signal problems but dont and seem to be reading from a script of excuses to give people who moan about the network coverage. My view-stay well clear until they sort out the coverage or go bust
  • 3s alright if you live in London, I suppose their coverage in the major cities is good. I haven't had signal problems as such, have a LG 8110 and a nokia 7600. The LG I have is quite ineffective with reception unlike the Nokia which seems 2 maintain full reception when the LGs indicating 1-2 bars.

Customer service, polite but ineffective. Ok for the little things, nevertheless you have to wait a couple of minutes to get things sorted out.
