The reason I ask this question is because, I am having trouble finding the ingredients, as they are not that common on the shelf of stores that I live near. As matter of fact, I actually dedicated one day last week to look for them, and I only found Soap flakes (from Wilkinsons, cheaper than Tesco and Sainsburys) and Soda Crystals (from Sainsburys, cheaper than Wilkinsons, Asda and Tesco).
As for Borax, Wilkinson has discontinue them, the only other place I know has them is Tesco, but they are not always on the shelf, believe me, I tried 3 large Tesco stores, none of them has it.
Those stores I went round looking are not anywhere close to where I live, and Time is money, the whole day I spend looking for them leaves me having doubts about whether is it really worth it or not?!
I also know you can purchase them in the Boots, but the truth is, which Boots though?
And furthermore, I know you can buy them online, but they actually cost more online than in the shop, maybe I have been looking at the wrong places I don't know. But is there anyone who feels the same way like I do? :sad:0 -
I can't say i have the same problem, as i find Soap Flakes and Soda Crystals to be readily available in my local supermarket. But i know Borax is being replaced with Borax Substitute soon, so possibly your stores are in the transition phase? either way, the lady at my local boots said they are trying to get rid of their stock of Borax before it is replaced, so it was reduced last time i bought it! So maybe try there? Hope this helps! x0

Hi I had the same problem getting borax but then I found that amazon sell it on line so I ordered it from there. I also use a receipie for home made fabric softner which I have found is great it is 6 cups of water 3 cups of vinegar and 2 cups of any cheep hair conditioner that you like the smell of. It works well and your cloths smell great!! My receipie for soap powder is:
2 1/2 ounces soap grated (or soap flakes)
1 cup borax
1 cup washing soda.
I use 2 tablespoons and if I am using soap flakes I disolve the mixture in a little warm water before adding it to my machine so that I know the flakes have dissovled.
Hope this helps

That's what I was thinking noonoo! anyone got any ideas what to use it for? My mother has stockpiled it and now cannot use soap based products.......
Here's some suggestions
1.Foaming bath melts? grating and add to a pot with some healthy oils (olive, sweet almond etc) until boiling and soap has melted. Take off the heat and add in the butter,)Cocoa, Shea, Coconut) stirring until melted. Add in any colourings or essential/fragrance oils or glitters, dried flowers etc.. put into a cupcake pan or ice cube mould, or similiar and leave to cool. Pop one in the bath for a lovely bubbly moisturising bath (great for gifts also:p
2. dish Washing liquid? Mix some boiling water, soap flakes, glycerine oil, Soda crystals and a tsp of vinegar and essential oil (opt, can choose grapefruit, tea tree, lemon, lime etc.. as all antibaterial)
3. Lush type bath jelly?:j grating and mix with boiled water until dissolved then adding in jelly (or gelatine) and put in the fridge, add essential oil for Lush type bath jelly?Blogger / Money SaverMake £2022 in 2022 Challenge - Accepted0
