Digital camera wanted

Looking to see what people think.

I want to get a new digital camera. My current one is the pentax optio s. Only 3.2 MP but gets great photos!

So I am looking at getting a new one. Somewhere around the £200 mark. The thing I would really like is a decent zoom. I find 3x optical zoom can be rather usless at times and I feel that lets my current camera down.

I would prefer a compact one so I can just put it in my pocket rather than having to carry a DSLR around.

I have been looking at the lumix tz3. I have read some mixed reviews about it. Has anyone got any suggestions of good cameras with a good zoom on it.

TrustedReviews claim that the TZ3 is pretty good, but also say that the Ricoh Caplio R7 is slightly better. It's also slightly cheaper...

The TZ3 is very good, but indoor / low-light shots tend to be rather noisy.

Can I suggest the Fuji S9600, a 9.1 mp camera with a 10X optical zoom? Just under your budget and well worth it

It has very good reviews, not a dSLR and not a compact. You have the ability to add filters and various converters too

I've got one of those. It's certainly gotten excellent reviews, which is partly why I bought it, but I can't help thinking that I should have gone for something lighter - even with the batteries in, the lens is still the heaviest part!

Furthermore, unless you're a giant it most definitely won't fit in your pocket.

ixus 70 is going cheap in amazon (~115 quid) at the moment...ive used this one and its much better than panasonic (ive used FZ3 and FZ5) in terms of noise performance.

IMO, pana is good if u want to use image stabilizer in their big lens cameras.

thanks guys, will have a look. There are far too many cameras to choose from. The tz3 looks good but its the low light bit I am worried about.

Fuji seem to be the most recommended for good low-light performance.
