Mmmmm know what you mean. 2 weeks ago petrol was 99.9, it went up to 103.9 in two weeks, probably hoping everyone would fill up before the Budget yesterday. Garage was queuing out the door during yesterday, and the 2p rise that was expected by the government didn't happen.

Have a bet on with the OH that the price drops in the next two weeks!

    It's called inflation.

If cheapo food is all that matters to you, why not shop in Netto?

I can only suggest you stop shopping there if it is getting on your nerves - I very much doubt that Tesco will respond to an individual complaint about rising prices, and if you know you can get alternatives elsewhere, then you are already one step ahead in finding yourself a bargain.

Even my OH has noticed how much food has gone up in the last couple of months, if not weeks...I had to laugh when we passed the bargain shelf in Mr T's at the start of this week and said "quick quick get in there there's lots of reduced chicken..."
When we picked up a bag of organic chicken breasts reduced from £8 to £7 he spluttered really loudly and squawked like a chook ranting that's not a reduction rah rah rah.....lol
I sort of explained that's how it is at the moment and why I shop very late at night to get even more reductions cheaper....
I also said to him expensive meat is why we have a lot of `traditional' cheapie meals like toad in the hole and cottage pie! He always reacons he'll only eat chicken breast but I think even his eyes were opened when I said any chicken pies or curries or stuff that I make is used with thighs or the larger leg protions...lol
I can see what you mean though about it being annoying...

Buy meat from a good butcher and it will normally be cheaper and better quality, and if you are lucky enough to live near a farm shop, you're laughing!

Don't buy it today, in a couple of weeks time you will see a "Save XXX" cooking oil lable.
It's a common ploy used by all supermarkets, raise the price and then reduce it a week or so later so you think that you are getting a bargain.

I use many and they're all more expensive however I prefere the quality.

Are people sure they're cheaper? I've never found one that is cheaper on the whole than a supermarket.

The farm shop down my road is, but it is the only one I ever use so it might not be representative to be fair! However, given the amount of water pumped into supermarket meat, I would think that it would still work out cheaper for the actual amount of meat you get. You can buy bacon from our local farm shop at about the same price as the supermarket, but it actually stays the same size when you cook it rather than shrinking down to a shrivelled wisp, which is a refreshing change. Their steak is also really cheap - let's hope they're not reading this and decide to put their prices up!

I went to T's to get a bottle of Schwepps lemonade on Wed previously had been half price 44p (89p) - now 95p nearly 7% increase, higher than inflation. Been finding price increases like this all over the store eg. their own 6 packs of yogurt are over £1 now (65p in September - found an old receipt).

I have actively tried to find a a butcher near me with better/comparable prices to a supermarket, but to no avail. The meat is much more marbled and fatty and I would have to cut half of it off and is much more expensive. Maybe if someone could recommend a good value butcher in Dundee or Perth area I would be convinced?

    It's only a game
